I THINK I might have an ED... Or other appetite problems

Okay, so no offense to anybody recovering or dealing with an ED, that's not my intention and I'm sorry if I posted this in the wrong section! But I'm a little concerned... for the past few days I can't finish my meals anymore. I'll always end up leaving stuff(food) behind(which are normal amounts that I've been consuming for the past 4 months and losing weight) but now I can't bare to stomach it all. I'll be quite hungry by dinner time, go through making dinner from almost scratch, I'll sit down and eat about 1/4th of my dinner and I won't feel hungry anymore. This is DEFINITELY not normal to me, I don't understand how it would be my "stomach adjusting" to small amounts. I've been eating at a fair caloric intake, I do lots of cardio and eat a lot of my exercise calories back(or I did) and I've been losing weight normally.

Could this possibly be a PMS thing? I'm not due for another few weeks but I tend to get PMS quite a ways before my actual period, but I've never experienced this before. As for the stress factor, that MIGHT be it, I tend to get stressed and not notice due to being a little too used to it.

So what do you guys think? I really want to get back to eating regularly.

Few days and you think you have an eating disorder? I highly doubt it. A few days does not make an eating disorder.

If you feel fine otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it.

A couple of days isn't an eating disorder. You might want to discuss it with a professional that deals with ED's if it keeps up indefinitely.

Well okay sorry, jeeze. This is why I'm asking MFP, because I don't know myself.

no I don't think you have an eating disorder (source:psych major) your stomach is definitely getting smaller and doesn't NEED all that food if you find yourself eating way under your calories drink a smoothie to bring them up, I find that drinks are easier to consume. It's happened when I first was on a diet I would find myself not wanting to eat that extra side of mash potatoes or that extra waffle, your mind and body are starting to say no and that's great!

An eating disorder is a type of mental illness. A few days of eating less than usual could be chalked up to moving less (expending less energy than usual). Or since you've been eating well, your body may be more sensitive to hormonal signals that tell your brain that you're full. If it continues to worry you, see a doctor.

What? How did you get that impression? She's just asking a question because she's concerned about her health. If she wanted to have an eating disorder (which, I'm sorry, just sounds strange to type because an eating disorder is a painful mental illness that can't, in my humble opinion, be brought on by sheer will, but instead manifests itself due to a collection of various triggers and predispositions), she wouldn't have posted this topic.

the test may be that you are aware and asking yourself if your eating habits are healthy. People with eating disorders are more likely to start from a place of denial not concern for their own well being. It is always a good thing to check and check again if you are eating a healthy, balanced diet. So the questions you are asking yourself are very good ones. I also try to eat my healthy calories rather than take them as supplements. And make it from home cooked meals wherever possible. Starting with good cooking habits as well as good eating habits will be the best habit to last a lifetime.

Thanks everyone that wasn't a jerk(most of you)! :smooched:
I'm just really worried about not being able to eat when I'm used to! I did realize that I'm doing insanity recovery week, so I'm not getting in much more intense workouts then I'm used to. Again, thanks everyone!

I experienced this same thing when I was in my second or third month of really focusing on eating healthy, and especially when I began exercising. I personally feel it was my stomach adjusting to the new eating pattern/style (I eat more protein than I used to, so I am sure that is one reason - staying fuller longer). Or, maybe that I had significantly increased my water intake during the day, etc. Just as some of the other posts state, I would not be too worried at this time. However, if it continues into maybe a month or so (for example) and you are concerned, I suggest that you do see a doctor, just to ease your mind and/or to confirm whether or not there is an issue. I still have days where I struggle to get in at least 1200 calories - I feel like I am really hungry, but after eating just a bit, I feel full and/or not interested in the food. Sometimes I wonder if I am simply bored with the food, because I am eating quite a bit differently from what I used to eat (not as much grease, fat, sugar, etc.). I just don't worry about it, because I am pretty confident that I do not have an ED (although, I used to have one going the opposite way, as an overeater). I wish you the best!

She put a growling face - and the "well okay jeeze" after 2 people told her she didn't. I got the impression she was mad they said she didn't. I was just surprised at the angry response and was wondering where it was coming from - but maybe I just wasn't reading it the way she meant it since others didn't see it the same way.
