Hi there - I've been on a diet for or life style change as long as I can remember. Recently my husband had to start living by a gout diet plan. I've take a sire relief in that since he is a picky eater and can eat what he wants or used to. I have old habits to break, but at night when the clock strikes 8pm, i get bored so I eat... any suggestions

Drink water and eat fruit. It will trick ur body into making u full. But dnt each too much fruit bc they tend to contain lots of sugar. 3 servings of fruit a day is the suggested amnt :-) Hope that helps!

I find it easier if I don't even have snack foods in the house in the first place
  • Hello,
    Evening cravings are the worst.
For me the thing that has worked best is to excercise in the evenings. By the time I'm done excercising I'm so tired I can't even think about eating. There's something about excercising that makes it less likely for me to snack. Try it out and see if it works, I used to be the evening snack queen now for the past few weeks I've rarely had anything after dinner.
    :-)
  • Hundred calorie packs of popcorn! It's a ton of popcorn so you can just munch and munch without un-doing your whole day. My fiance and I usually split a bag and that's more than enough for both of us to satisfy our late night cravings.

I agree with sunshine. I'm strongest during the day so that's when I shop. If it's not in the house then I can't eat it. Fortunately I'm too lazy at night to get dress to run to the store so I end up with the 'snacks' I do buy and can afford calorie wise. Light yogurts, rice cakes (mmm caramel), light popcorn. I found these great microwave eggrolls only 70 cals. Be creative. Good luck.
  • I think that if you have been used to a snack before bed growing up it just becomes that sixth meal. For me, I have ALWAYS eaten before bed...I also nearly always watch a TV show before I go to bed...old habits die hard...I think this is why it is a good idea to not give young children food or snacks while they are watching TV...it creates life long habits...anyhow, I adjusted my nighttime "meal" to be done before 9 pm and its usually a half a serving of Multigrain Cheerios and skim milk with a few blueberries on top...thats not alot, but it satisfies my mind and body...except of course on movie night on the weekend...then its a diet pop and Smart pop!!

Eating in the evening is never good I dont think, BUT, if you have to, or need to, or even think you need to, find a low calorie, low fat one that you enjoy....

Honestly, these message boards help me the most when the cravings get too strong. I spend time reading about our shared struggle and make comments on others' posts and it sort of reminds me why I'm doing this in the first place. That usually gives me a little boost. When I know that I've got a couple hundred people on this trip with me, I find that I'm a whole lot stronger than my cravings!

I make a chocolate protein shake. Satifies the sweet cravings just a little and holds me over till breakfast. Better than any carb based snack.
