Feeling drained :S

Completely changed my lifestyle within this last month. Going to bed before midnight instead of staying up until 2 or 3 am. Eating much healthier and more often, working out everyday and going to the gym 3 days a week, I quit drinking coffee and drinking more water. The last 2 days I've been so drained and tired and just feel so... ugh. Been lounging on the couch all morning and have no urge to do my morning workout. I thought changing your life for the healthier lifestyle is supposed to make you feel better?

Nothing gets easier, you just get better Take a rest day - you get better by resting, allowing yourself to recover, not by training. Use the time you would have spent in the gym today to look over your nutritional traits and see if there is anything that seems off or unbalanced. Stick with it0

I used yesterday as my rest day because instead of my boys taking the school bus home, I put the baby in the stroller and went to pick them up instead. I need to go to the gym tonight because I haven't been since Monday.0 -

I've just had a look on your profile and can't tell your stats from your profile and understand if you choose not to share this with others. But I can see that you have been eating an average total of 1000 calories roughly for the last 4 days after deducting extra calories burnt through your gym effort. Anyone would be shattered and feeling exhausted doing that for 4 days alone too - or at least close to being ill!
There doesn't seem to be anything else recently entered in your diary prior to this week either.
It would be useful if you kept your diary up to date so that people can at least see what you are asking for help on when you post a new topic once you have got used to eating properly.0 -

There isnt anything else in my diary previously because I only started watching my calories this week. Before this I would have a few coffees a day and only eat what's equivalent to one meal a day. Now I'm actually eating breakfast, lunch and dinner with snacks in between. I know its down but each day I look back at my dairy and eat a little more.0 -

There is some great advice online about how to work out what you need to eat to loose/gain weight. The best advise I have been given was to work out my Basal Metabolic Rate and Total Daily Energy Expenditure.
This is the link I was given to do this

You may also find it useful to research into the science of nutrition, macro and micro nutrients, understanding the nutritional implications of the different types of fats, carbohydrates, fibres etc - How to spot a fad diet and not get roped in! If its not natural then chances are you wont stick with it - changes happen because the differences that are made are sustainable.
And the significance of sugar, sugar content in carbohydrate, healthy sugar to carbohydrate ratios, and the strategies that the food industry plays in getting us to buy seemingly healthier products. For example:
- products labelled as high in fat when it's good fats that they are high in
- labeling something as low fat when instead it contains vast quantities of bulking agents and sugar instead or artificial sweeteners and preservatives to improve the products life or taste
- labeling products as 'no added sugar' but actually being high in natural sugars (not necessarily bad in moderation)
- products being high in sugar/preservatives/sweeteners which have been reported as leaving you feeling less satisfied and still hungry for more food after.
- the significance of saturated fats and why it is healthier to keep them low and other fats higher. 'Fat - of which saturates,,,'
You get the picture.
I don't know about all the above yet - I'm not a qualified nutritionist or someone with experience in the field, but I am taking the time to learn, and that is bringing significant benefits of its own - in time! My diary isn't perfect - I still have days where I crave all the wrong stuff and then eat all the wrong things but I am in a much better place now than I was before I decided to change my ways. I haven't just changed my diet but my habits of a lifetime. Hense, nothing gets easier, you just get better.
Good on you for making the changes that you have already!0 -
It sounds like you're mentally exhausted Vanessa. Ease slowly back into your activities. Give your mind and body a chance to recover from all the positive changes you are putting it through.0

Thanks so much! I much much much prefer to do this without any weightloss gimmicks and what not, that way I'll be more proud of myself when I reach my goals. Yes, I'm currently taking those visalus shakes but I only have 2 shakes left in the bag, pretty much drinking them just to get rid of them as a friend gave me it for free.0 -

I pretty much fail at everything I do so I feel like if I stop or slow down for a little bit I'll fall right back into my bad habits and start gaining weight again... I'm finally so close to being under 200 lbs I can almost smell it!0 -
You certainly haven't failed in any of the efforts you have made so far - or the mindset that you took when you decided to change.0
-
After a quick check of your diary, the only thing I can say is: more food. I didn't see a day where you ate over 1200 calories. You mentioned the Visalus shakes are almost gone, so hopefully that will make it easier for you to add more to your breakfasts and lunches.
Good luck on your journey!0
