Did you start using it without a personal trainer? Any tips? I'm moderately terrified of it. Can I start using it on my own?

    Do you mean a barbell/Olympic bar? My husband helped me with my form, and I watched videos to learn the lifts I wanted to do.

    go to stronglifts.com they have a bunch of instructional videos to watch

    Ya, metal one that you do squats with. I find that even just the bare bar is heavy and I can't balance. Adding weights helps balance?

    It was hard for me to balance at first too (I just started about a month ago). It got a lot easier REALLY quickly.
