How much $ have you invested in weight loss?

I was just thinking about how much I've invested so far in my quest to get in shape. After purchasing Body Revolution, new shoes, a HRM, weights, resistance cables, workout clothes, protein powder, etc, etc.....I think I'm at about $500 over the past 3 months. Granted most of it is one time purchases, but I think it's been worth every penny.

What do you think you've spent and has it been worth it?

    Probably a lot.

Between new shoes and clothes to purchasing weights for home to my membership with my trainer...

...honestly, I don't want to calculate it all, but it was all worth it.

€200,- Gym membership (for a year)
    €50,- Running shoes
    €10,- Dumbbells
    €60,- 2 DVDs and a book

That's about it, Total of €320,- (around $420,-). When my dad moved to Australia he gave me his exercise bike so that didn't cost me anything!

    too much

I would suspect about $500-600. The latest being $30 for plexus 7 day trial package. I lost 22lbs last year and need a jumpstart to get back into it. My boss lost 5 lbs in 2 weeks so I said what the heck.

A shown in my profile pic...
Currently my newest investment is some fat gripz, cost me a good penny for what it is, but as far as I can tell its working after only one day use!

I think my next investment will be a rope attachment for my gym at home ... Feeling I need to hit the triceps a bit more!

As far as investing is concerned, I think I am on par with what I use to spend/parents spent ... Instead of constantly buying supermarket junk food, a protein shake usually takes priority meaning I get my monies worth there anyway..
But I have incorporated multi vitamins to stay tip top shape!

Between my gym membership, grocery bills, constantly having to by new clothes, I'd say a little over a dollar. : )

Very little. It's more about time. I only pay $100 per year for the gym at the college I work at. That is the largest expense and really I could do without it and do body weight/resistnace exercises on the track with good results. I just like being in the gym for motivation and focus. Beyond that, just normal cost of living for food and sports.

    Shoes- $120 every 8 months
    Iron weights - $340
    HRM- $60
Treadmill- $350 used (only use in winter)
    P90x & P90x2 - $200
    Pull up bar- $25
    Fitness ball - $25
    Clothes- ???

$1120 currently (plus whatever my wife buys)

And then add in protein powders, blender, etc, so it goes up. But I figure that's stuff I'd buy regardless of where I worked out so I don't count it.

The gym membership was $65/month, so that's $780 every year. In less than two years I'll have paid less than the gym and own all my free weights. Much better deal for us :)

    HRM - $50
    Weights - $60
    Running shoes - $100
    Workout clothes - $50
    Bicycle - $90
    Insanity - $50
    Scale - $40
    BF% Measurer - $30
    MFP - Priceless

All in all, probably around $500 over the past year... may not sound like much, but I'm a BROKE college student! I've probably spent more on fitness than on anything else!

    Gym membership: $57/month
    New gym shoes: $130
    New outdoor running shoes: $120
New workout clothes: +$500 (lulu's are so pricey lol )
    Barbell/weights: $120
    Secondhand elliptical : $250

Sooo, too much already! But I have everything I need now, costs shouldn't rise too much. I'm also probably going to cancel the gym membership is favor of outdoor jogging if winter ever goes away haha

Less than it would cost if I had to take cholesterol or BP meds for the rest of my life if I had stayed fat and lazy.

    Holy moley!

    About $1k!!

I bought an Wii, with the Fit balance board and a charger for the remotes for myself at a christmas time and have bought a handful of fitness games for it. Turns out it was a good investment, since I use it almost every day!

More recently, I bought a bike. I have been wanting one for at least a year and my partner enjoys biking, whereas he won't play Wii with me very often, so I think it was also a good investment.

My old clothes were, well, old, so I won't feel too had about buying clothes, and I still have at least one outfit in every size for another thirty or forty pounds. I am tempted to pre-invest, though: will there be any swimsuits available when the ones I have swim away? How hard is it to find a life vest in the off season? Is it safe to skip a size?

$70 (monthly) for a Y "Membership Plus" pass that I rarely use. I'm so much more comfortable going for runs outside and doing workout videos at home where I can't really push it and not feel self conscious about being all beet red and looking like I'm about to collapse. I would cancel it, but... I have plans to start attending Hatha Yoga classes there (and maybe a few of the strength training classes once I'm a bit more comfortable with my fitness level).

I think I SAVE money on groceries now that I'm eating healthier, though. Less eating out at restaurants and grabbing junk food at the corner store!

    HRM = $100
    Weights = $110
    Headphones = $100
    BodyMedia Fit = $145
    Workout clothes = $85
New smaller size wardrobe = $1150

    $1690 so far. Crap.
  • I am not even going to go there. I just know that I can't afford food, but hey I've got plenty of supplements!!!!! LOL

    Really not much:

Used like new threadmill = 250
Fitbit one (open box) = 50
    Ozeri touch scale =40
Fitbit Aria (open box) = 85
    Endomondo Android app = 0
Myfitnesspal PC and Android = 0

However I know I will have to expend more in the future as the weight goes down.
I think no matter how much you have to expend, it is your health that matters, so it worth it!
