You doctor is seriously ordering you to eat no veggies or fruits?

I have no suggestions other than have a slab of lean meat with nothing else...

And possibly look into a different doctor, one who is learned in nutrition.

Thinking the OP must not have understood what the doctor has said.

Surely it can't be NO carbs. More likely no simple carbs.

If your Dr suggested this diet, then he/she ought to give you guidance on what you should be eating. Zero carb AND low-fat will be very restrictive in my opinion.

No (or actually low carb) + low fat = bad. Recheck with your doctor.

    That's extremely restrictive.

No carb usually allows meats and cheese, but those are all pretty high on the fat count.

Eggs, and especially egg whites, or low fat cottage cheese or yoghurt.

But I agree that it's unlikely you mean NO carb.

I'd be really surprised if your doctor actually recommended you go low carb (I doubt it was NO CARB) and low fat. That is an epic fail diet, and I know that from personal experience. Totally unhealthy and so unpleasant to be on that sort of a diet. If you don't personally commit a series of murders, it is highly likely someone may attempt to take your life because you will be the most disagreeable person on the face of the earth.

In your previous post you said " no starch" - that is pretty easy ........ No carb - pretty impossible ( and unhealthy) I would say.....

I eat no starch, but still get around 100 g of carbs through milk, vegetables, and very limited fruit.....

If it is no starch, just replace the starches with vegetables - especially green and cruciferous veges....spinach, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower.....

The Dukan Diet is low carb and low fat. I know people who have had some success with it but switched to low carb after a while due to food choice boredom.

If you are cutting out (what I'm assuming are processed/starchy) carbs and sugar, you need to really, REALLY up the fat or you will feel like crap. But that is a sustainable way of eating--and very satisfying. I've done it for a couple of years and have never been happier or healthier. But LOW-fat and low-carb = fail.

No (or actually low carb) + low fat = bad. Recheck with your doctor.

    ^^^ this!!!'

Your doctor hasn't heard of rabbit starvation? The human body can't function with protein as the only source of calories, you die from it. It's called rabbit starvation because rabbits are a high protein, low fat, zero carb food, and if you try to live off nothing but rabbits, you die from rabbit starvation. The french call it "mal au caribou" because the same is true of caribou meat. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rabbit_starvation

Rabbit and caribou are very good foods to include as part of a healthy diet but you'll need to get a decent source of healthy fat in addition to it, plus enough healthy carbs to fuel your activity levels.

If your doctor has put you on this diet for a short term (even highly restrictive diets won't do much harm in the short term and there may be medical benefits in some cases) then your doctor should be giving you guidance on what to eat!! not leaving you to ask on an internet forum!! And in the case of low fat zero carb, he should also have given you a time limit, i.e. how many weeks it's safe to eat like this before the rabbit starvation kicks in.

My sister went to a doctor who prescribed her *diet* pills. She paid $100 for a month supply and he told her also to cut out ALL her carbs. I was sitting there with her when he said it. I think my jaw hit the floor. First off... why do you NEED a diet pill if you are cutting every single carb out of your diet? I'm not really understanding this... so when she lost 22 lbs last month, and was happy as all get out, and of course this was also with NO exercise. Kinda sounds too good to be true to me..in fact... this month she is complaining that she has hit a plateau and well... she has started to binge eat due to the restrictions she put on herself last month.

I would definitely get with your doctor again and maybe ask him/her to be much more specific to what you can and can't have. :flowerforyou:

    Your Doctor is a buffoon.

Dietary fat is fine. Carbs are fine. There are no bad fats and almost no bad foods.

What's bad is excess calories in the form of fats, carbs, protein etc... some contribute to body fat more than others.

Conclusion - Go and tell your doctor that Tricksee from Myfitnesspal forums says he/she should not be giving any form of nutritional advice.

    Thanks and goodbye

Thanks for the great advice, yes I will have to call him to get clarification. Sorry, my mistake...genetically I have trouble processing starch and also problems with processing fat. Therefor he said I should only be eating protein and vegetables. I also have to limit my fat to 35 grams per day because of a medication I am on. He said the body does not need any other foods to survive. As one poster put it I do feel I would be put in a looney bin as I can't for the life of me figure out what to eat that is low fat and without starch....and I would be a very crabby person if I did!

definitely get advice, low starch =/= low carb. You will need to get enough simple carbs (fruit sugar is a good source of this) to meet your energy needs, your body won't run on pure protein. I wouldn't begin to advise which fruits if you can't process starch, some have starch, others don't. Same with vegetables (e.g. potato is high in starch). If you have to stick to just 35g fat a day, then you need to ensure that it's from healthy sources, to get omega 3s and fat soluble vitamins.

as you have to have such a restrictive diet due to medical issues, IMO your doc should refer you to a dietician who can make sure you are getting all of what your body needs without the foods you have to cut out. These issues make your diet very restrictive and I'm not surprised you're finding it difficult to figure out what to eat... hence getting help from a dietician. Doctors are not usually that well trained in nutrition.

Also, what your body needs to survive and what's necessary for good health are two different things. You can survive for a very long time on a very poor diet, but sooner or later malnutrition and related health problems will kick in. IMO your doctor shouldn't have put you on such a restrictive diet without ensuring you have good advice on what and how to eat. Simply telling you to eat "no carb low fat" is frankly quite dangerous advice....

How do you do no carb and low fat? So the only thing you're eating is straight lean protein all the time? What?

If your doctor has seriously ordered you to do a no carb diet get ideas from your doctor. A no carb diet is definately not a healthy one and is incredibly hard to do. Otherwise, find a new doctor.

Grilled breast. Baked chicken breast. Poached chicken breast.

I like chicken, but not THAT much! Time for a new doctor--fat is GOOD for you!

OK, you've clarified now that you meant avoiding starch, not carbs. That's a whole different ball game.

Vegetables and fruit will get you a long way. Add in lean meats and fish for protein and you've got the basis for something workable.

Breakfast - eggs, or just egg whites, with mushrooms and spinach, Greek yoghurt with berries.

Lunch - tin of tuna mixed with avocado or salsa. Cottage cheese salad.

Dinner - grilled or baked fish, with steamed asparagus or leeks. or a prawn and vegetable stirfry, maybe explore those no-carb miracle/ slim noodles.
