Carry over calories

Does anyone carry over calories? I have 124 left for today and am thinking that I might save them until tomorrow and enjoy a glass of wine. Today is my 5th day and I'm hoping I can stay on track over the weekend.

You can average out your calories for the week. 3500 calories=1 pound loss (average), not that it guarantees you'll lose a pound. So, yeah, you can carry those over if you choose.0

yes, enjoy a glass of wine!0

I do that sometimes, and sometimes I just plain go over and chalk it up to experience. Either way, you will be fine.0
-
I "save" them if I know I'm going out on the weekend. The body doesn't reset at midnight, it's a budget, treat it as such.0

Yes...this is all fluid. Your metabolism doesn't really function on a 24 hour clock and then start over the next day. If you have a deficit of calories over a period of time you will lose weight.0

I do sometimes.0

I wouldn't, because I am aware that in order to lose weight I also have to eat and because I look at each day as an entity by itself. No matter what I do today, tomorrow is a new day and a new beginning.
Using your logic would also mean that if one overeats let's say 200 calories that they would have to deducted from tomorrow's calories and that is not a good idea.
I would enjoy a glass of wine and build it into my total calories for tomorrow, or even go over. I think if you " carry over " calories, you open yourself to cheating ( to say it bluntly ) in other ways.
Good luck and enjoy that glass of wine.....:o).0 -
I do. I did my Insanity DVD this morn, ate those cals, did a 5 mile walk this evening. I'm eating those cals back tomorrow because i won't be able to exercise and i'm eating out. Nandos here i come! lol0

For a very brief time, I made a fictitious food and exercise called "carryover calories". When I had extra, I would record the food in that day, and the identical amount of calories in "exercise" in the next day. It worked well enough, but got a little confusing at times.0

I occasionally do, but I try to balance it out within 48 hours, or I will just forget about it. Mostly, I just move on.0

So not true...Your body does not have a calendar - and it is a well known princile for tried and tested weight loss programs like Weight Watchers that a weekly deficit is waht matters....
And as long as you don't steal somebody elses food, "cheating" and eating does not go together....
So OP, enjoy the wine!0 -

THIS! There's no magically reset your body goes through at midnight. I have two "cheat days" where I go over 500 or more calories. I am still losing, but that's mostly because of the deficit I made during the other days of the week.0 -
It is a good idea to switch up calories.
Reason being is your body is really aware of changes, so when you change your diet, or cut back on calories, your body might be thinking that you are having a difficult time finding food or something to that affect, so it will try to cope with the new situation instead of keeping your metabolism up each day. So it is good to switch it up, just as long as you are keeping that 3500 deficit in the week.0 -
I know that on the phone app there is a weekly bar chart - and an average at the end and your total calories for the week at the bottom. For me, if the average and the total are good enough for me, then I don't mind what happens during the week.
But yes, if I have a lot of "good days" then I don't feel so bad about having a bit more on the weekend0 -
somtimes I carry over, but I try not to make it habit, too easy to push off doing better and being in the green to the next day and create a bad cycle for me so I shoot for as close to green every day, but if you want it go for it, everything in moderation including moderation.0

nope! Start a new day with my daily count and don't add to it because I may have a few left from the other day. yesterday was yesterday. Today is a new day. Besides which 120 something calories is not much. Chances are you over or under counted anyway or even forgot to log something.0

I was doing this, too. It was mostly on my rest days. I think that I was overthinking things.0 -
I carry over calories for fun weekend treats every week and it hasn't slowed me down one bit, I love my extra weekend treats!0

"Your body does not have a calendar" and yet "a weekly deficit is what matters"? I would argue that your body no more has a concept of weeks than it does a of days.
Ultimately what matters is that you have a calorie deficit *over time*. Sure, there are extremes at which you will run into other problems (like trying to cram your entire deficit into a few short days) but the principle remains.0 -
My diary goal per day is 1800, but I eat 1500 Monday to Thursday so I can eat 1800-2200 on the weekend (sometimes up to 2500) and average out my weekly cals to what would have been 1800 cals everyday.0

How do you get grumpy cat on your ticker? :-)0

Thank you everyone for your replies, I posted this ages ago and forgot to check back. Your replies are really helpful thank you. I haven't carried over any calories yet but may do at some point.0
-
I personally don't do this, but I know you can be successful doing this. I agree with everyone else talking about the weekly deficit. I hope you enjoy your glass of wine.0

I typically do not eat all my calories on my workout days. I find I use more calories on my rest days so I put part of the rest day calories on the workout day that I didn't use the full allotment. Otherwise if you leave calories on the table, you are consuming less calories than planned for. Since the calories are planned so that I should lose a pound a week, I do not need to reduce those calories further because It didn't fit into a daily allotment, a byproduct of the method used to log your food.0
