How the hell has this happened?

Well, I have been good, not perfect but still good. I have eaten healthily but still had the odd chocolate. I haven't really done anything differently but I haven't been able to get in the gym as much. I weighted myself about a month ago and was 27st 6lb, I weighed myself today and the scales said 28st 3lb. I just can't understand it! It measured my son's height as 4ft 9 when he is around 6ft 1 and it measured my height at 5ft 4 when I'm at least 5ft 7. It has measured my height before at different measurements before, I have been 5ft 6, 5ft 8, 5ft 7 it's a pain. I realized it measured my son's height too short so stood further back on the scales than I normally do hoping to get a correct reading. Is it possibly standing further back could have weighed me heavier? The only other possible explanation is I have been on steroids for asthma and I had a steroid injection in my knee yesterday. Or it could be because I have been feeling so low lately and I know when I'm low I gain weight.

I'm really disappointed because I have been doing so much better with my diet and although I've struggled with exercise due to terrible pain in my back and knees I have still tried to go to the gym and have an exercise plan for next week. I have NEVER weighed this heavy before and I'm gutted! I won't give in though, I will do it!

Do you have your scale on a level surface? Depending on the type of flooring, a scale can be really off, especially if it's tile.

Have you been measuring your ingredients accurately with a scale?

Are you eating all your calories?

How do you have scales that measure your height?? If they're that way out on something you can see, how can you trust them to weigh you accurately?

Luckyjula makes a good point - you can't use scales on carpet, they can be several stones out. You must put your scales on a hard floor.
  • They are scales in a a chemist shop where they measure your height too. They measure your height using some device over head but it's always wrong. They are on a tiled floor. Been weighing food where I can although not always possible, I don't know if they are right or wrong but I'm not going to worry. Just going to keep doing what I'm doing, I know I can do it, I've lost 70 pounds before. x

you must eat more than you think you eat.
but isn't that true of most people with weight issues?
like, i had no idea my portion sizes were so ridiculously small.

take this as motivation that you can't afford to be complacent.

low moods won't make you put on a stone unless you're eating your moods.
  • i would say its probably a combination of the scale being a little off, you eating more than usual (possibly more sodium) and the oral steroids... i know everytime i get put on prednisone i gain about 5 lbs in 2 or 3 days but its usually all water weight and goes away after i stop taking it....the only time ive had real weight gain from being on it was when i was taking it for a year and a half straight....

Actually studies have shown you can gain weight just because your moods are low and if you're happy it's easier to lose weight. I don't eat more than I think, I have cut my portion size down an I'm using a smaller plate, making sure I cut down. Part of my problem is I have a tumor on the pituitary gland affecting my hormones. If I don't go to the gym 3-4 times a week I gain weight, even if I eat healthily and cut right down. I have passed out because I have cut down a fair bit but was still exercising 3-4 times a week. My body just doesn't work properly. It's incredibly frustrating but I'm determined to lose weight. My weight never went past 27st 8lb even if I ate nothing but junk food. I'm eating less and healthily so this really has got me baffled.

Yep, that's the ones! I was on them for a long time and really gained weight in my teens. They also cause depression so I was on antidepressants but I really struggled to cope and I was comfort eating. The consultant I was seeing for the tumor believes the steroids could be the cause of the tumor but doesn't now for sure.
