Newbie: Just Want to Maintain, Tone and Be Healthy!!

So I am a little embarrassed to say that I am a part of the thirty crowd and just now really taking an interest in my health. I guess it's because all of my life I have always been a healthy weight without ever exercising or watching what I ate. I've tried working out in the past but lack the motivation to be consistent. Also anytime I would mention working out or ask others about what they do at the gym I would get funny looks or people telling me that I didn't need to workout because I had the perfect body. But I think it doesn't matter if you are a good weight or not you need to exercise. I mean I am thin and get out of breath just walking up 3 flights of stairs. I don't think that's good!
So now everyday I am seeing all of these new workout programs and people that are posting on social networks (facebook, tumblr, instagram) about their fitness goals and feel that I need to maybe take a look at my own health and see where I need to improve. I realize that I don't eat enough fruit or drink enough water. I snack too much on junk foods and love sweats. This past month I've tried several different workout videos, Insanity (just because I wanted to see what the hype was all about) TaeBoe (kinda classic right?) and Jillian Michaels. Not sure if any of them are for me, but this time I want to find something that suits me and be consistent. Maybe even join a gym. I want to tone my body, but don't know how. To be honest I really don't know where to start so I figured I'd post on here. I've used this site before just to see what my caloric intake was on a daily basis and found out that I am eating too few calories, but really have no clue what my intake should even be.
So I would love some friends, and lots of advice and encouragement to be consistent.
