Good device. I own one. A FT4 is probably just as good and costs less. The FT7 has a bit more memory and a HR zone screen that's really worthless in my opinion. It's cool that it will store 99 workouts but other than that no better than the FT4.

Has anyone had problems with theirFT4 not reading your heart rate? Halfway through my workout today mine did that and I couldn't figure out the problem. I kept resetting it but after a few seconds would go back to not reading it again???

I have the FT7, my husband bought it for me at the beginning of the month and I love it. He could've gotten me the FT4 but I guess he thought the 7 was better?

Did you try to wash the strap? Apparently they can get "dirty" and stop the watch reading from it

I also have the FT4. I absolutely love it. The FT7 has a couple more elements to it but nothing I needed. It up to you. Polar all the way though. :)

Mine did that after 3 weeks. I replaced the battery in the heart monitor. No problem since then.

P.-S. Got the FT7 because I'm superficial (loved the red model).

Do you get the strap leads wet before you put it on?

Yes, but I figured it out. I changed the battery it came with and it worked perfectly. I didn't think that was it at first bc it seemed to work fine but I guess that was it.

    Thx

Does it have a stopwatch and does it track distance?

No, it will gave you length of workout, calories burned, heart rate, what zone you are in - fitness or fat burn

Sue, sometimes I wet mine, sometimes I don't. My first FT7 went wrong within a few days, even changing the battery did not do. New one, so far has been ok. Some people recommend some conductive gel, I run mine under the tap.

Was still having problems with mine. Got in touch with polar and they are sending me out a new transmitter. Lets hope this fixes it since changing the batteries was only temporary....

Not sure what I did wrong but the strap broke  Maybe I wore it too much? (I wore it as a regular watch also)

On Amazon, there is some colors of FT7 being sold cheaper than FT4. Guess what is being delivered to me soon. :)

I got the 7 over the 4 because you can replace the batter at home on the 7. If i remember my research correctly, 30 dollars to replace the batteries for their devices. To me the long term cost and ease ( not having to be without for weeks) won.

The manual for the Polar FT4 shows the wristwatch having a user replaceable battery, just like the FT7, and both used to ship with the same Wearlink + transmitter in the past, but now ship with the newer H1 transmitter. Both the old and the new transmitters also have a user replaceable battery cover, although the way to open and close it has changed between the revisions. So don't let that guide you in making the decision. Since the more capable FT7 is currently found cheaper than the FT4, it's an easy choice right now, but the operating costs over time should be the same for both.
