Stress fracture: now what?

Diagnosed with a stress fracture in my foot earlier this week, I'll be wearing a fracture boot and "resting" for a month. Do not have access to an arm bicycle or a pool. Any suggestions for maintaining some form of cardio activity?

I will continue to do strength training 3x/week but try to stay off my feet for that, too.

  • So jumping jacks are out? Try the ab twist machine to really fast music. For 15 minutes. Light weights. Let me know if you sweat. Then do light (5 lb?) bicep curls for 15 minutes. I used to use something like a lat pul down machine for about 20 minutes with light weights getting ready for Bajs.

You obviously have a computer. Go on youtube and do Pilates! You can get a cardio burn and modify exercises to not put pressure on your foot - easy since most moves are done laying on the floor.

I just got out of my boot for a stress fracture, but while in the boot I would do upper body mainly, and swimming but since you don't have access to a pool I guess that's out! Are you on crutches? Walking around the block on crutches was quite a workout as well. Best of luck and take care!

I had stress fractures in my right hip and knee a couple of months ago. I say take it easy and focus on your recovery. Crutches will give you quite a workout anyway. ;)
