calories in protein shake

for the first two months on being active and eating healthy, i lost not weight which was super frustrating since it was a major change... now i just lost two pounds in two weeks... and i never thought to look at the calories in my protein powders.. but i just finished one kind and got a new one around the same time of the started weight loss.. come to find that my first protein powder has almost 300 calories per scoop, and i was taking two scoops PLUS one scoop of another recovery powder, so i was having probably about 700 calories at least after my workouts, where as now i have one scoop of this new protein and is only 130 cals... NOW WONDER i wasnt loosing.. i just assumed protein powders were all low in calories...

you sure you bought a protein powder and not some type of weight gainer?

The vast majority of protein powders are approximately 30 grams per scoop and have between 100 - 130 calories per scoop.
  • There's a big big range in quality when it comes to protein. I have seen ones with 15-20 grams of sugar but there are others like Dymatize Iso-100 that have 1 carb per scoop 106 calories. If your taking one thats only 130 though thats still probably decently low in sugar.
  • i think its both... its supposed to add on lean muscle mass, its a protein powder though, from GNC. i asked them what to take so i dont bulk up because i always seem to when i lift weights, and thats what the recommended
