Craving Sweets

Hey everybody. I've been doing MFP for a couple of months now. I've been doing really good and watching what I eat. However, some days I get these cravings for sweets and I give into them big time. Any one have any suggestions on how to curb these cravings or ignore them?

I eat a Dannon Light & Fit with either a graham cracker or stretch island fruit chews. Or I add frozen strawberries to water.

Can you allow yourself a little bit of sweets each day to try to curb the cravings? Like maybe some dark chocolate?

Those are really good ideas. Are stretch island fruit chews good?

I can but I am trying to avoid sweets altogether to be healthier. I know dark chocolate in small amounts can be beneficial for you so I may try that.

I don't ignore it. It makes it worse for me... I usually go for something like a fat free chocolate pudding, chocolate frozen yogurt, 1 cookie, a caramel & chocolate chip rice cake... something to kick the craving without going crazy. If I ignore it I`ll go crazy on something and the seriously regret it.

Have a mango, they are soooo good, better than any candy!

Or you can make faux ice cream with banana: freeze a banana (after it is peeled and cut into smaller pieces) then blend it or use your food processor with 1/4 cup cow milk or almond milk. If you want you could add a little honey. If you want it chocolate-y you could add some ovaltine or hot cocoa mix or chocolate chips. Or if you want it fruity add some frozen strawberries. It really is yummy with or without the additions!
  • Dannon Light & Fit with strawberry are always the best. But get the plain yogurt with out the fruit on the bottom(too much calories). Just add fresh strawberry just as sweet but less calories.

I get sweet cravings every day and most of the time I pop a piece of fruity gum in my mouth and it solves the problem immediately. I loooooove Juicy Fruit gum!! In fact, I've been chewing it so much lately that my jaw is hurting! Lol

The only thing that will end the cravings is to cut sweets out altogether. I also did a fast from fructose (no fruit) for a couple of weeks to bring down my level of the fructokinase enzyme (the enzyme responsible for helping the liver to metabolize fructose). It is elevated in most anyone who eats sugar to any degree (sugar is 50% fructose). Once it comes back down, you will no longer crave sweets. I have been off of sugary foods and, in fact any foods with added sugar for about three years. I do not miss it at all. In fact, once you get off the sugar merry-go-round, you will find that your enjoyment of healthy food becomes pretty intense. This isn't just my reaction. I've checked with a number of people who have gone off sugar and they say the same. Sugar is an addictive substance and directly causes overeating by, what researchers call, its "anti-satiety" effect. Now that I am off sugar, on the rare occasion where I am persuaded to have a piece of cake or some such, I find that it is unpleasantly sweet and stop after one bite. Victory over a sweet tooth is entirely possible, if that is what you want.

This is going to sound funny, but I found cocoa puffs cereal bars that are 100 calories....be sure to check the box as they also have one that is higher in cal content.
