Ok this sounds pretty nutty to me but i keep getting told about it. Basicly the theory is cold showers make you lose the weight well at least some lol anyone hear about this? Anyone actually do it? What other nutty things have you heard? Lol

If you did the energy balance for this you'd find that the calories burned would be negligible. I can't believe anyone would think this is legit.
Eating ice cubes would be far more effective but it's not exactly fun - and it too wouldn't burn much. Eating a kilogram of ice wouldn't even be 100 calories.0 -
yeah, I've heard that it increases your metabolism. Also that it improves blood circulation.0

If you are eating enough for your metabolism to raise to keep you warm - sure you can burn a little tad more.
Or, just wear less around the house and be cold all the time.
If you aren't eating enough, it won't raise, and you'll just be cold. Until the involuntary shivers come on. Now that is a decent burn. Something else the metabolism does will be left undone for that to take place if not eating enough though.
Meat locker works best, or visit local convenience store and ask to sit in there fridge for an hour in shorts and t-shirt.
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/11/science/11qna.html?_r=0When the core body temperature gets dangerously low and the shivering response is maximally stimulated, Dr. Askew said, energy expenditure can be as high as that from work requiring 40 percent to 50 percent of the person’s maximum aerobic capacity. But if the core temperature drops low enough, the shivering response ceases and hypothermia rapidly sets in.
And 40-50% of VO2max is about the Aerobic HR zone range, so 60-69% based on HRmax.
So you can get your 20 min aerobic workout calorie burn by just shivering uncontrollably. Wear gloves and socks, no need for frost bite.0 -
Think i will stick to sweating i hate being cold lol0

My house and my work are always freezing. I've yet to see any weight loss benefits from it.0 -
I live in Alaska and it sure hasnt done much for me either lol0

You'll only burn calories if you're outright shivering. It can't just be a cool shower. You've got to be so cold that you are shaking uncontrollably. Personally, I'd rather just eat a little less.0
