When do you weigh-in?

So I was wondering when everybody weighs in? I don't mean weekly or monthly, but more so as, do you weigh in first thing in the morning, when you are at your lightest, or is that cheating? Because I cannot remember when I did my original weigh-in, so now if I weigh-in first thing in the morning I am worried that I am deluding myself, since obviously I am much lighter then. So as a result, I am curious as to how everybody else approaches this scale business!

Also, I know a lot of you don't use scales, so feel free to ignore this post! I'm afraid of starting a big old debate! :P

Take your weight at 3 specified times during the day. Average it out.

I do it first thing in the morning. Although i notice that because i eat little and often, my weight doesn't fluctuate too much throughout the day anyway. Unless i weigh myself after dinner...then i'm in trouble :p

I don't want to become too obsessed with the scales? I am 130 lbs and 5'4, looking to lose 6 lbs, so I know that most of my weight differences will be in terms of body fat, and not actual pounds.

I'm just curious as to what others do?

with lifting heavy, you won't be weighing often. you'll need to wait till it's been 2 days of rest from weights, and the first few weeks there will be lots of water in your muscles for repair, so it would be better, mentally, to just put away the scale for awhile.
use measuring tape, measure when you feel a difference or annually in some way. my weight has barely budged(down), but I've lost lots of inches for such a short time frame.

I weigh in on a Sunday morning before breakfast as Saturday is my rest day and I read that it's a good idea to weigh after a rest day as it allows some of the water that your muscles are retaining to 'dissipate'.

I weigh every Friday morning when I wake up! I do weigh other times too, but that's the weight I count!

I weigh every day first thing in the morning but my 'official' weight for recording is taken first thing on a Saturday morning after I've been for a wee.

Best time I've found is in the morning after my trip to the toilet. Gets everything out and makes sure that it's only bodyweight and nothing else (food/water).

Wake up, pee and strip if you have something on. Nothing to drink before it.

My official weekly weigh in is Monday at noon for Weight Watchers.

I don't think it matters when you choose to weigh in, as long as it is consistent for you.

Yes consistency is the most important thing. I agree. Try to wear similar weight clothes if you are doing something like WW'ers. I did too for decades lol

I weigh myself every day as soon as I get out of bed, buck naked. The only day I record for progress purposes is Saturday morning, as that is usually my lowest day. A scale that is consistant helps. I recently got an "Eat Smart" scale and I like it, because it is consistant. Pick a day you are sure of and use that as your "Start Day". This Saturday would be perfect. I started on Thanksgiving @ 296 lbs and am 266 now, but started MFP @ 287 the 1st Saturday in March. So, I've lost 21 lbs on MFP, .....so far.

I weigh myself every night before going to bed. I track it in a notebook that I keep at the side of my bed. I weigh myself in the morning, too, after using the bathroom, but I don't log it.

I like to do it at night because I have a body fat scale and the morning weigh-in is always less weight, but higher body fat percentage.

In my notebook I write in what I did for exercises that day. I like seeing the correlation between exercise and weight. Like someone said above, I will not lose weight (or it will go up) if I've done exercise with lots of weights or something unusual that leaves me sore (like shoveling a mountain of snow). A few days later, after my body recovers, I'll see a dramatic loss.
I've been logging for a while, enough to be able to see what is up with my body, exercise, and weight loss.

I log weight loss on MFP or on BodyMediaFit when I have a similar number for multiple days.

If you are in it for the long haul and your ultimate goal is a healthy lifestyle then the tiny difference in one day shouldn't make a large enough difference to cause you to be deluded. When I decided to change my lifestyle and eat healthy I also decided to really take control of the scale. That has been hard for me. I weigh myself once a week on Sunday. I make it random so I don't have a conversation about all the factors that might have contributed to what I see on the screen. My goal is to lose 2 pounds per week...so far I have managed to do that. It has been liberating to step away from the scale but I won't lie...it has been a challenge.
