You can't really choose an area to lose weight.
Just exercising in general will take off weight where ever your body feels it should come off of first. Cardio burns a lot of calories and That's honestly how lost a lot of weight. If you want an area to slim down you can also try lifting some weights and have a calorie deficit.

I can sympathise with you as i'm the same shape. i always have muffin top and I hate it. I have come to terms with not being able to change my bodyshape. all I can say is even when i got to 9 stone from 11st 11 pounds a few years ago, I was still never happy with it. The fact that your stomach is flat helps but you will likely always look curvy, a flat stomach makes it look better though. I'm sure it will reduce if you concentrate on losing bodyfat but apparently you cannot spot reduce the fat from there. I was also doing resistance work at the time I lost weight first time round. It will decrease, I think its more noticable the higher the fat %

    What Kate said.

You need a calorie deficit to lose weight, and you get that from what you eat. I don't know what cross sit ups are but they sound angry

Lucky you being an hourglass, from all the pears out there! No, but I have got over wishing for boobs. Really.

I have an hourglass figure but that's not really relevant because you cannot spot-reduce, as in you cannot lose weight in one area without losing all over. Just get your body fat percentage down all over and it will come off your hips too, that is genuinely the only way.
I am going to be one of those people who tell you to lift heavy weights and you probably won't take my advice but believe me when I tell you it is what made the most and best difference to my hourglass body. * It doesn't make you get huge bulky man-muscles*, it changes your body, tones it, strengthens it, helps it effectively burn more calories. I hardly ever do any cardio at all and my body is looking great.

sorry but you can't spot reduce ...

fat will come off from where it wants..

eat in deficit and work out ..it will come off, eventually...

Same here. My friend is an hourglass, and she looks amazing, even not yet at her goal... I, however, do not (as a super pear AND low-long waisted).

I have amended my profile as that pic is my fitspiration! I did get a really good shape doing resistance work at the time though. I was a member of curves womens gym. i got to goal and didn't introduce myself to a good maintainence programme, instead I got back into old habits and put a stone back on. The hard work really does begin after goal to keep it off. This time around I'm at a regular gym and trying my hand at some weights. I felt last time that by doing strength it helped my body fat reduce while keeping lean muscle. The weight this time doesn't seem to want to come off nor does the inches! I'll keep at it though and i'm messing around with my calorie figures too as I think my bmr is calc too high.

The only way my sister reduced the size of her hips was by walking 8 hours a day delivering mail for several years. Building the muscle around her hips pulled in and tightened her pelvic bones. I suppose you could replicate that somehow through heavy weight training.

Do you mean that your sister changed the shape of the bones of her pelvis through exercise?

Not so much the shape as the width. She always had a very wide pelvis. Her pelvis became narrower due to her job delivering mail. It was still wide but not as wide. The muscle she built around her hips and pelvis pulled the bones in. But, like I said, that involved walking 8 hours a day, 5-6 days a week carrying a 50-70 pound mail bag. It was at least a year of that before her hips were noticeably narrower. The toll it took on her shoulders and back is a different story.

You can't really lose weight in one specific area but you can tone it up. I'm an hourglass too (40-30-40) and I found that doing pilates and weighted squats helped firm things up.

Another great exercise is squats and lunges. Once you have the right form then add weight. Helps burn calories and tones in those hard to lose areas. I lost 4" off waist and 2" off hips in 6 weeks doing this workout with cardio as well. It does take time and hard work. Eat more protein and less carbs also helps the muffin top. Good luck
