Hi guys I just went for a run and it was quite possibly my worst ever ! The heat was horrible and its not even that hot about 18 degrees.
I just wondered if anyone had any tips to help whilst exercising when its humid and hot etc ? Or if they had any tips on how to adapt to the summer, I started running last october so im not really used to exercising in the sun :P

Thank you

Take it easy if you're not used to it. & make sure you drink enough water.

I try to get up really early and run before the heat comes. Even if you wait until after dark to run it is usually still too humid. If you run in the morning you get the coolest run and it's an amazing feeling to get so much done before everyone else is awake. :) Getting out the door that early is the hardest part. :)

    Thanks :)

I intend to buy a new running bottle this weekend (one where you can hold it through the middle)
Yeah I could get up and run before work I suppose :)
  • its always hot and humid where I live, and most runners go either right at sunrise or sunset, but it depends on the neighborhood because if its dark here, its not really safe. Like the others said, keep hydrated and maybe find a trail or path with shade. :]

I turn in to a very early riser and don't participate in any races in the summer because it just gets too darn hot and humid for me. Don't just bring that water with you on your runs, keep a steady state of hydration. I learned from a buddy of my husbands that when he was stationed in the desert, they made sure to drink a ton of water the day before they knew they'd be out in the field because once you get dehydrated, it's hard to catch up. Keep that water coming and drink a little extra especially if you know you'll be going out for a run the next day.

Wear a hat to shade your head and eyes and wear light breathable clothing so you don't get overheated. And yes, try to stay in shadier areas if you can. Keep your cell phone with you so that if you do overheat you can call for help. Heatstroke is serious stuff!

Suncream!! I learnt this the hard way on Saturday after running 5k in the sun and having a lovely glowing red chest and neck to prove it!
