Am I doing my calculation right with TDEE?

I believe my BMR is 1530 and my TDEE is 1810 according to MFP.
I'm told to eat above your BMR but try to deficit 15% of TDEE.

So is this right? Also, should I be NETTING my BMR after exercise or does it not matter?

If you click on Apps on top right...scroll down (look to the right of the screen) to where it says BMR and hit calculate it will tell you your BMR. What's your height, weight, activity level?

    If you don't exercise I'm getting TDEE- 1828, -15% = 1554.
  • I don't like to use the "activity" numbers because I prefer track my exercise on MFP and use actual calories burned from my HRM since MFP likes to add those to your food diary anyway, but I would say on avg. 3 hours a week.

MFP doesn't use your TDEE in calculating your calorie goal...MFP uses the NEAT method. If you're using the TDEE method, you wouldn't just set yourself sedentary because you work in an office...you need to include any exercise you do (based on hrs per week) and any other activity. I'm an office worker as well...but I'm hardly sedentary.

If you set your TDEE based on sedentary, but workout, you would need to eat back exercise calories because basically you're just using the NEAT method.

Are you SURE you're sedentary? I have a desk job as well, 40 hours a week, but I still have my activity level set to lightly active, AND use a HRM to log my exercise and eat back calories and I'm STILL losing weight.

See I thought the "From Normal Daily Activity" section would have been considered my TDEE.

I set as sedentary because my main hobbies are computers & gaming on my Xbox so I sit a lot, but I try to get at LEAST 30 minutes of exercise in a day (with a rest day)

So I'm pretty close then

That's good to know! Thanks
  • I used this to figure out my activity level as well as many other things. I also found out I am large framed so I don't have to lose as much as I originally thought. :)
