Is Turbo Jam Truly Low Impact?

I was looking at the Turbo Jam set with the weighted gloves as something to move on to when I"m done with JMBR. I read a lot of views, and many mentioned that its low to no impact, i.e. no jumps etc. I'm fine with impact, but my husband has knee trouble and he likes to exercise with me sometimes. It sounds like Turbo Jam might be perfect for him if it really is as low impact as the reviewers say. There's no way he can do Jillian, and he even had trouble with some of the Leslie Sansone moves when we worked out together last night. Is Turbo Jam truly low impact, or is there a lot of jumping and bouncing?

Most of Leslie Sansone's DVDs are quite low impact (those without the "boosted" walking).

From what I remember Turbo Jam is quite low impact (not a fan ... fairly cheesy) .... just did the beginner (learn to burn) type stuff.

To look at impact level for 100's of DVDs (not BeachBody stuff) ..... collagevideo.com gives lots reviews & tons of info.

Turbo Jam is low impact if you want it to be or high impact depending on which instructor you follow. In the Turbo Jam DVDs I have there are instructors (Mindy and Anarita) who demonstrate the low impact way to do the exercises. If you want higher impact exercises, then you just follow the main instructor, Chalene. (I have knee trouble too and TurboJam has been fine for me with the low impact modifications).

^^Exactly!! I did turbo Jam for 16 weeks...I also have "iffy" knees and have to be careful exactly what I do. Turbo Jam is, for the most part, low impact but, on the few things that arent very low, you can follow the others and do low impact. You dont have to use any equipment (i.e. weighted gloves) if you dont want to.

GOOD LUCK!!! I really enjoyed Turbo Jam when I did it that I went onto Turbo Fire and that is High Impact! :-)

It can be low impact depending on how you do it, but if he has problems with Leslie Sansone, which is the lowest impact workout there is, I don't know how he will do with Turbo Jam.

All Turbo Jams and Turbo Fires are either, she (Chalene) always has someone modifying the workout if you need to go low impact. Great workout and lots of fun!!

Some thoughts on knee issues with Leslie Sansone........

A couple of the newer DVDs have more high impact stuff ...Belly Blasting Walk & 4 Mile Power Walk have quite a few higher impact moves. This is NOT typical Leslie ..... try out some older "Walk Away the Pounds" ....less impact for many of those

Another issue could be ..... your floor surface. I "can" do Leslie on carpet ... but I really have to be careful with side to side moves ... if I drag my feet at all ..... I'll feel it the next day. I typically do Leslie on a puzzle mat ... a little cushion ... but smooth

There is one DVD in particular 5 Mile Slim Down ...... I had to get rid of it .... waaay too many side to sides (my hip flexors ...ouch).

Re: TurboJam ... because of the pivot type moves .... your floor surface will be important.

Thanks, this is all so helpful. The main move he has trouble with in the Leslie DVDs is the kickbacks. I have mostly her newer workouts because my old ones were on VHS and I don't have a player anymore. It sounds like Turbo Jam would be good for him if he sticks to the modifications, and I'll have something to look forward to when I'm done with Jillian. I always step up my Leslie workouts now with fast moves and weights because Jillian has really whipped me into shape over the past month. I feel like I'm slacking otherwise.

Some libraries have workout DVDs, so you might want to see if they have a copy? Or get a used copy on Amazon. Then you won't be out a lot of money. :)

This is Fire 30 Class, from Turbo Fire. It's a little faster than Turbo Jam, but the girl on the right does modified moves.
