Down 42 pounds - need maintenance help

Over the course of the past 10 months I have lost 42 pounds with diet and exercise. I finally reached my goal weight today and have switched my MFP goals to maintenance. It says that my calorie intake for maintenance is 1770!! I am so used to eating 1200-1300 calories I'm not sure how I can wrap my head around eating more to maintain and not lose anymore (although it wouldn't be bad if I lost more, I'm just happy where I am right now). Any tricks on how to get past the mental aspect of keeping calories low??

i was the same way. the first week or so, i had a hard time even letting myself eat enough in order to reach the maintenance calorie suggestion. trust me... you'll get over it. :) i was so happy to be at maintenance, i was not such a happy person eating 1300ish calories for several months. i have been successfully maintaining since january. but i have kept up with my healthier eating and started changing up my exercise routines.

great job, btw! 42 pounds lost is amazing! keep on eating good food and exercising. i hope you've been at least somewhat enjoying a healthier new lifestyle and will have fun keeping it up.

It was a leap of faith at first...but as long as you maintain ALL of your new life habits, regarding portion control, exercise, etc., it works. I've been in maintenance for one year now after losing about 25 pounds, and with the occasional fluctuation (and lapse in discipline), I have hovered around the same weight the whole time.

Nice to see a maintenance post. Gives me some inspiration to hit my goal weight and see how to maintain.

Thank you!! Yes, I am loving my new lifestyle!! My biggest fear is I will start eating crap again to fill the missing calories. But that will be my own demon to fight (and I WILL)
