Blisters?

okay, i made my rows WAY too close together and now i have to hoe out the middles instead of using a tiller.

my hoe is a gift from my papaw-it was his first hoe when he planted his first garden on his own. basically, its a very important garden tool/gift.

it is also a blister making fool.

so for two days i have been working-and my hands look like hell. they feel about 20,000 times worse.

anybody got a good remedy to take the sting out? i iced them and it helped as long as the ice was on them.

    Not a particularly savory question, but are the blisters filled with puss?

    Sometimes if I get a particularly bad blister that prevents me from using my fingers, I will puncture it [light the end of a needle to sterilize it then poke the very edge of the blister. Push down to drain]. At that point, you are supposed to sterilize it again and put on a gauze bandage; however, most of the time this inhibits my movement so I just superglue over the blister. I won't publicly recommend this tactic, but it is used in the medical community so it can't be so bad.

    Only if they are infected. In which case, I don't think you should poke them with a needle and then super glue them. Just sayin'.

    Otherwise, they are filled with plasma.

    they arent fluid filled-theyre more the kind where (im cringing as i type) where the top layer of skin just scoots loose without ripping into a full blown skin tear.

    and i know i should have worn gloves-mine were being washed and i wasnt expecting 8+ hours of hoeing dirt.

    Iodine. once the sting is gone from that you should heal

    I garden a LOT and when I get blisters, I clean the area very well, let it dry and then spray it with Curad's spray on bandage. It doesn't look pretty but it works and keeps them from stinging.

    Warning: It burns like an sob until it dries. It's worth it though!
