Make sure to have breakfast and sleep enough. and give yourself a break if you blow the cals here or there, your efforts won't be ruined by having that extra slice of pizza or whatever, I go over on average a day a week but this race is won with consistency not speed :) That's my 2 cents.

Good on you for starting your journey! That's half the battle won :)

I will second what was said above, treat your body WELL. Enough sleep, enough water and beautiful, nutritious food will see you getting results in no time. Be prepared because you most likely will make mistakes, you may have a binge etc. It's important to log it all, dust off and continue on your path. Keep an eye on your macro-nutrients (fat, carbs, protein) and make sure you ARE eating enough fat (this is one area I need to work on).

At first, concentrate on logging your food day to day, then you can make adjustments when you're more comfortable with calorie counting. Also, a kitchen scale is a must for weighing your food.

    Go for it!!! xx

If you're new to dieting, I think it's important to realize that people generally OVERESTIMATE the amount of exercise they do and UNDERESTIMATE the amount of food they are eating. For that reason, I would advise you to buy a food scale and weigh and measure what you eat. Once you do that for awhile, you will get a better sense of appropriate portion sizes and how many calories are in the amounts of food you are eating. As an example, I used to guess-timate the amount of peanut butter that was in a serving -- then actually measured it one day and found that I was eating 60 grams of PB instead of the 32 I thought I was eating. That is a huge difference in calories when it is something dense like peanut butter. In MFP the calories listed for fruit are often for a small piece of fruit - as I found out when I weighed an apple and found that it was twice the size of the one in the database. Good luck on your journey. You'll find a lot of good advise (as well a some duds) in the MFP community.
