Emotional Eating....

I am going on my third week soda free - also fast food free but I have had a few lapses with fast food. I have lost 5.5 lbs in that time. I have only weighed myself once in this time. I have been going to zumba at least two times a week, most times more. I really have been emotional this past week and have found myself guilty of emotional eating. I don't know how to beat this. I keep looking in the mirror and seeing what I hate... Fat....... Ugh I know the progress doesn't happen over night and I have been telling myself that. I just need encouragement, kind words, and help. From anyone. Thanks for viewing.

Dust off the lapses and move on! You know you can do it, heck you're already doing it! 5.5 pounds gone in three weeks is a great achievement
FWIW, I had a HUGE binge on Monday night (my diary is open, all logged). The next day, I had 'gained' 2.7 kgs (almost 6lbs). I felt huge, bloated, disgusting. BUT, I said no, this week won't become a binge week. I got right back on the horse, and today I am back to my pre-binge weight. Point being, yes I stuffed up but I didn't let it ruin my new found quest for health.
How about starting a food journal? If you feel like the emotional eating urge is lurking, write down what you're feeling. What are you craving? Why are you craving it? How do you think you'll feel after eating it? How did you actually feel after you ate it?
You can do it. You are in control of your food and your life. Get out there!! xx0 -
You're pretty much on track with your dieting, 5.5lbs / 3 weeks is really good.
I'm self motivated, keep everything positive and knowing that this new lifestyle that i chose is a great one.
Keep up the good work,
If I have an advice to give you, is weight yourself every sunday morning and have yourself a cheat meal. It'll keep you sane during your journey.0 -
Like the other posts have said.. dust yourself off and get back on the horse. We all have lapses and its nothing to beat yourself up over!
When I know I'm doing some emotional eating, or boredom eating is another big one for me.. I try to keep it to a minimum and to eat healthy foods at least. I love cut up veggies so I make sure I have sliced bell peppers, carrots, celery. Find something healthy you can eat with a little less guilt that still fills that craving maybe? Bell peppers fill in for sweets for me because they can be pretty sweet. Celery sliced thin (at an angle to make it bigger or in sticks) can take over for chips. Or you can look up making something like zuchinni chips. The food diary is also a good suggestion, I think.

5.5 lbs in 3 weeks is amazing! I really hope I can achieve even close to that in my first 3 weeks (I'm 5 days in). Don't beat yourself up about lapses, just start again the next day and you will be fine. You are doing brilliantly! If you need more support on here, feel free to add me and there are plenty of other lovely people on here who will help support you. I'm definitely an emotional eater as well and I know I'll have lapses. It takes time to change our habits. You've done so well. Keep up the good work!0

Congrats on your weight loss, 5.5lbs is GREAT and you shouldn't eschew that because you are having a rough time! I second the suggestion for keeping a journal for when you feel the urge to eat for the wrong reason. Getting those emotions outside of yourself in ways that aren't eating will ultimately help you change habits in the long term.
Someone on my FL recently mentioned crossing the hurdle of going to exercise when she felt like she was going emotionally eat, it was a first and the sense of accomplishment she had was obvious. Don't give up whatever you do, pick yourself up and keep going. I also firmly firmly believe in how the language we use to talk about ourselves matters. When you catch yourself saying mean, guilt-laden, and negative things? Step back for just a moment and pick one achievement or positive about yourself and say it out loud, multiple times. Use positive words and language whenever possible. That nasty voice that hurtles you towards emotional eating binges is a liar!
You are are worth the effort, please don't doubt it! :flowerforyou: Feel free to add me if you like0 -
You guys are great. I've had a horrible week and I got into a pretty heated argument with my fiance. so that threw me into old habits i believe. I'm writing it down in a journal and trying to keep it together. Thank you all.0

Being aware that you emotionally eat is a huge step in the right direction! It means that you can increase that awareness and find substitutions.
Go for a walk/zumba/run/yoga whatever kind of exercise you like! I used to be (and sometimes still am) an emotional eater but have found that now I would rather go for a walk or other type of workout, blast some music and disconnect from the emotion (or think about a solution). I can feel the bad slipping away and feel like I can breathe again. It also fuels me to do longer hander workouts (especially when mad!) After the workout, I find that I am ready to deal with the situation and move on.
Don't beat yourself up because you're doing awesome work! Take a deep breath and tell yourself its only temporary.
Good luck!0
