Low purine diet

Options
My partner has recently developed quite serious gout, and the doctor has recommended he go on a low purine diet, does anyone have any tips on nutrition and diet as the info on the internet is quite daunting?

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

I get it bad and it sucks. I've gotten conflicting info from doctors and nutritionists. I get it in my ankles and knees, and when it's bad, I'm not walking. I have a small flare up in my ankle now, but it's not bad. At least not yet.

Foods that do affect me are
beer (really sucks, because I like beer)
    Cauliflower
    Mushrooms
Oatmeal (I think this is what set it off this time)
    Fatty meat
    Reduced stock
    Spinach

That's just a starter. Have them keep a record of what they eat and how it affects him. It usually takes 12 hours or so to hit. Sometimes less, sometimes more. Seeing a nutritionist is probably a good idea.

You might find this online database of purine content of foods useful:

Just sort foods by purine content and avoid those highest in purine.
