Small running victory

Running has always been hard for me. My sister runs marathons, but I sometimes have trouble running more than 15 minutes. Today I ran for 45 minutes! Even though I was bummed to find out I actually gained weight today, I'm not going to let myself get discouraged because I ran so much!

That's awesome! 45mins is huge. Don't belittle it- it's a huge achievement. And don't compare yourself to anyone else either. the only person you're in competition with is you!0

Well done, that's fantastic!
I long to be able to run for 45 minutes! Sadly - as I have bad knees, it's unlikely to happen (although who knows what effect losing 75 pounds might have...).

Wow that's fabulous. I have just started running (about 3 weeks ago) and have just managed the 15 minutes. So well done to you. I am aiming for 18 minutes tomorrow!0

WOW! Thats fantastic. Depending on your speed you ran 3-5 miles. Thats great stuff. Theres a lot of people out there who can't even run for a bus. Big pat on the back for you. :drinker:0

I agree with bonjour. Only compare yourself with yourself. That's the only way I've been able to succeed--I used to get discouraged or even give up when someone passed me while I was running, because I'd feel so slow. Especially when they were smiling and bouncing to their headphones and I was huffing and puffing and soaked in sweat. But now I'm the once flouncing around to my Sirius XM mobile at 12 mph for 5-7 miles at a timie.0

That's fantastic! I've been doing Couch to 5km (c25k) and am now up to week 7. That means I get to do a 25 minute run today. Can't say I am at a point where I enjoy it yet but I have committed myself to a 5km run in London on 18th May and a 5 mile run on 21st July that ends in the London Olympic Stadium. My aim is to be able to run 14km by August so that I can enter the City to Surf Run in Sydney, Australia. I think (baring any injuries) it is all do-able.
I also have bad knees and I started doing this when I was 88kg. I am now 80kg and find it easier to do when I first started. Hopefully with a bit more weight loss it will get even easier because let's face it, right now it's like I am carrying around a backpack full of extra fat that I shouldnt have0 -
45 minutes is not a "small" victory by any stretch. Great job!0

Timberowl - how long have you been running now? and when does it start to get easier. I feel that people walk faster than me! Thats's good advice - only compare yourself to yourself !0

You ran more than a 5K! That's HUGE! And don't rely on the scale too much after you push yourself to new limits. Your muscles are holding on to fluid so they can grow. Let the tape measure be your guide when you're watching your diet AND changing fitness routines. Congrats!0

Great going! It takes a lot of work and time to build up to that point. This is one of the reasons I like running. If you put in the time and effort, you can see and measure the results easily.0

Fabulous! Ran my first 5k last weekend and was totally psyched as well! Keep at it. The extra weight is likely water retention the muscle repair following the run. I was up over 5 pounds after the 5k and it has all dissipated over the past 5 days.0
