No progress :(

Its been a week since i started using MFP and i dont see any improvements at all..from other forums that ive read, they said not to eat under 1200 calories but if i were to eat around 1200 calories, i can foresee that i would not lose weight at all. Im a working person (on average from 8am-6pm) and by the time i get home, its alr too late in the night to go for a simple jog because i sleep quite early.

I tried to eat less but some say it may cause binging or be in starvation mode and because of that, the food inside my body will be stored as fats :(

Any tips or suggestions to help me improve the situation?

Uhm, it's only been a week. Why don't you wait a little?

Also, less than 1200 is very little. Unless you're really really tiny. Are you?

As long as you are eating less then you are burning over your full days activity (called TDEE) you will lose weight. You should work out your TDEE then as long as you are eating below that you will lose. Eating under 1200 calories would not be giving your body the nutrients it needs to function daily. There are some threads titled in place of a road map...they may be a good place to start :)
  • Hi Monxlisa. I think you probably need to be patient. Losing weight is about patience, organisation and being easy on yourself. Anything that works too fast probably won't last. Are you measuring yourself as well? Usually you can see changes in measurements before weight. I would give it a month first, eating using your MFP plan, and then see how you've gone. I've just started too, but I'm not an impatient young person, so it's a bit easier for me. I do remember what it was like wanting to see a change instantly when I was younger though. You can do it.

my wife is 4'10'' and her BMR is 1408 calories. If you are eating only 1200 calories then you are likely not eating enough. (there are other factors then height but my point is that you would have to be really small to be eating only 1200 calories and correctly fueling your body)
  • Why does everyone do this? You say it's been a week? Give it time! :) Definitely don't go lower than the calories you have planned; just keep up with eating well and stay at a balanced amount of calories and you'll see results. Have patience. You're not going to reach your goal overnight

    Eat more.
  • Hi Monxlisa, about 75-80% of a weight loss program is your diet. Exercise is what puts the icing on the cake. It's important to exercise because the muscle you evetually build helps to metabolize fat. The more muscle you have, the "ability" to burn fat is higher. Now, many women say that they are not interested in building muscle. No worries...if you're not taking male hormones or steroids you won't build muscle the way men do.

Depending on what you input as data for your goals deterrmine the amount of calories you should consume. MyFitnessPal is great with setting you up with the right amount of calories to consume. If you eat too little you will put your body in starvation mode which causes more fat to store. You want to consume close to the right amount of calories so that your metabolism will increase and burn the body fat. Remember to NOT eat fats with complex carbs and if you can, cut out potatoes, rice, noodles and white bread for a while. This helps tremedously! Pick a day to be your free day to eat some of the things you like (without going overboard of course) and just in case you're invited out or something. I set my goal to lose approx. 2 pounds per week and it worked out great.

Exercise: I use the Max Workouts program because you don't need to exercise as long. Max is about 30 minutes and they do work. Check out maxworkouts.com for lots of tips and did I mentioned that the workouts do work? I ususally work for 9am to about 6:30 pm but still find the time to do these workouts. They have workouts that require light weights and body weight workouts as well.

Lastly: Fitbit...check out the website Fitbit.com. This little gadget is what motivated me to get moving and it links to the MyFitnessPal website and a smart phone via bluetooth. It tracks your daily activity and helps to calculate and adjusts you calories throughout the day to give you a more accuate picture.

    Hope this helps...

Have you tried doing something like 30DS that you can do inside (it's only about 20-30mins)? I work full time too and I'm often really tired and don't feel like exercising when I get home but I force myself to.

Like others suggested. You're probably not eating enough calories (1200 is too low, I recently upped mine from 1100 and I keep expecting to put on weight but i'm slowly losing).

If you find you're still hungry it's probably because you're eating calorie dense foods that aren't filling enough. Start finding things that are lower in calories and more filling (i.e steamed veggies as a side).

If I only ate 1200 calories a day the only thing Id be losing is a little bit of sanity

1200 calories is very low, you'd be better off working out how much is appropriate based on your activity level, see

I second everybody else - eat at least 1200 calories, eat back your exercise calories, try to exercise (get up 25 minutes earlier than usual and do a 20 minute circuit, or 20 minute DVD), drink lots of water and most of all - PATIENCE

you worry about eating to much just like anybody else that is trying to lose weight. But you must not have an unhealthy realationship with food. Learn what BMR is. You are supposed to eat, food is good. Your body needs it. To much is bad, you know that, but to little is bad as well.

That's the same for most people. Our bodies are hard-wired to avoid starvation. Obesity has only been a problem in very modern times, so years of fighting off starvation and eating to live have made our bodies that way. You have to re-train your hunger impulses, habits and you also have to give your body enough fuel so that it knows it's not going to starve, so it will let go some of the weight.

I've been at this for almost 2 months and keep losing and gaining the same 3 pounds BUT I've lost 5 inches around my waist and 4 1/2 off my hips so if you have body fat to burn, that may be the first to come off. I'm not losing pounds as fast as I want but I figure if it comes off slow this time maybe it will stay off. Just be patient. Count your calories - EVERYTHING that goes in your mouth (someone said if you bite it, you write it) and drink LOTS of water.

You gain weight faster than losing because your metabolism is screwed up. That is what happens when you eat too low calories. I am speaking from personal experience. I had lost 70 lbs by eating too low, and I gained 99 lbs back relatively quickly because it was nearly impossible to eat anything and keep the weight from coming back.

It is a shame we see sooooo many people on here who have no clue how much they should be eating to lose weight (trust me, I was one of them at first). The should be some kind of reading required before joining MFP instead of just jumping in with no clue how to lose weight in a healthy way.
