I only have half a thyroid and I'm doing ok. My sister has been diagnosed with hypothyroidism for three years now and is doing fine. Besides, hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism will only give a 5-10 pound fluctuation.

It's not the weight gain you should worry about with hypothyroid issues, it's the increased fatigue and tiredness. Not to mention the muscle pain, cramps, and overall weakness. It took my sister a bit, but once she got used to working out a lot of the weakness started fixing itself. Basically, she became stronger so that even when she was weak she was stronger than she was.

When were you diagnosed? Are you on medication? How long have you been on meds? Which ones? Are you on hormones as well? Has your doctor given you a nutrition plan to keep your thyroid functions up? If you have been diagnosed with hypo then your doctor should be talking to you about the different things you need to keep your thyroid healthy, plus keep your hair and nails from constantly breaking and your skin from yellowing.

my ex had hypothyroidism and it wasn't the weight he struggled with but the constant tiredness and getting the energy together to get up and run or lift weights. It turned out he wasn't on the right dose of thyroxine and once it was upped (and he stopped drinking and eating junk) his energy levels rose significantly and with regular exercise he became really fit and active

When my thyroid tanked, I gained 50lbs in 3 months. I have permanent stretch marks from it. I had been talkign to my fam doctor about it for years since i have had low energy that long. I am currently taking synthroid and have lost 10 lbs since then (which was 2 years ago). My specialist is sending me for coritsol, vitamin d, and other tests. my tsh level has been good so idk where the extra tiredness comes from. I am determined to lose at least 20 more lbs by september so I came on here and have been following my diet more strictly. Other than that I don't do anything different
