5K Success!

I ran/walked my first 5K today, and beat my time by 3 minutes! My trial run was Wednesday morning and I ran 44 minutes flat. Today I ran it in 40 minutes 53 seconds! I am feeling really good about myself. I ran way more today than I was able in my trial run. I have another 5K at the end of August, I hope I will be able to run much more in that race. Not sure what to set my goal time yet, we will have to see how my training goes between now and then. But for now, I am happy!

First congratulations on your run. I am training for a 5K using C25K. I want to give a 5K a try this fall. I just don't want to be the last one coming in. Do some people stop and walk?0

@ bjerkins - Absolutely, people stop and walk. You should sign up for the 5k!. My goal for my first 5k was to be under 45min, and I did it in 40 (including walking!). You can do this!0 -
Look at it this way, even coming in last is coming in ahead of all of those who didn't start. Don't worry about the time to much, just do it and have fun.
Also, on most 5k's, you'll have a lot of people walking the majority of the route. My first 5K, I was surprised to see how many people were pushing baby strollers. Then I realized how great that was. The entire family was making an event out of it. Others, just wanted to join in and walked the entire distance. I did a mix, though was definitely not in much of a shape to do the distance, I did it anyway.
Besides, if you are already on the C25K program, you'll do well. The goal isn't to finish first, the goal is to finish and have a good time.

I couldn't agree with you both more! 5K's are great for beginning runners!0 -
Up to now, I've completed 3 5k's & one 1/2 marathon... and I walked every ounce of EVERY one of them. For the 1/2, that meant over 4 hours of walking.
I am doing the C25K now and hope to run walk a 5k in August & then run one in November.
Don't worry about time so much, just get out there and do it, you'll be hooked, THEN you can set higher goals.0
