Tell me about cross fit

I am going to a new city for the summer, and looking for a gym near my apartment (no car). There is one really close but it is a cross fit gym. What does that mean, and it is good for a guy who is looking to get toned but not like super ripped or huge?

Crossfit uses elements of, olympic style weightlifitng (Snatch, Clean and Jerks), Gymnastics, bodyweight movements and jumping in a circuit style work out. Work outs are in groups usually.
It's a good place to start imo. The main advantage is that you work together as group and you are much more likely to go train and everyone will help motivate you to get your training done.
You won't get *super ripped* or *huge* anytime soon. It is not an over night thing. You will see your body change over weeks and months. This is down to your diet. Super ripped = calorie deficit and Huge = calorie surplus.

Crossfit is good for general fitness. It's the jack of all trades and master of none.0

I would recommend against it. You would be better off doing normal beginner weight training and eating at a level that matches your goals. (deficit to lose fat, surplus to gain muscle)0
