Running Advice

I really want to learn how to run. I've been working at it the past couple weeks. I looked at the C25K program and tried doing the interval running. In a 25 minute walk I can do about 5 1 minute intervals of running, I started with 3 so I'm getting better.

So anyway my question is I started at 318 lbs in dec. I'm down to 287 now. Am I silly for thinking I can actually run a considerable distance by the end of the summer?

No way girl! Go for it! I ran a half marathon in 2:38 at 204 lbs, and I was not the biggest chick on the course. You are doing GREAT with weightloss like that, and you can totally do it. Be smart about your knees and other joints, continue with walkbreaks and building up gradually, and you'll be fine. Way to go!!!

NO! The only silly thing you can do is give up. Keep at it but take it slow, its not a race, the only goal is to finish the runs. Good luck and keep up the good work

Thanks for the vote of confidence! I'm going to keep at it. Maybe after a while I won't slow down when a car goes by anymore.

I started interval running at 300 pounds in June 2012. Now I can run up to 13 miles without walking.

    DO IT!!!!!! ????????????
  • I got this from a Marine. When you exhale count it out to 5 so you can control your breathing and it prevents you from swallowing air.

Advice from a track kid. When you run, don't run on the balls of your feet. Long distance running is on the middle part of the foot or heel to toe. Short distance running such as sprinting is on the balls. Keep up right when you run. Don't look up but don't look down or else you'll close off you're breathing. Keep your arms low and close that way you don't get air bubbles in your sides Arms are always bent so that you don't waste energy.

Pick up your knees when you run. Dragging you're feet will tire you.

If you do decide to work on speed. I suggest doing stairs to strengthen you're legs, arm exercises to strengthen you're arms, and yoga to extend your flexibility. That's all I've got. ;) Good luck!

Absolutely not! I currently weight 245 pounds and I am in week 5 of the C25K program. It doesn't matter how fast you are going and don't worry about the cars around you, they are probably paying no attention or if they are they are inspired by what you are doing. My advice is to listen to what your body is telling you. Feel free to add me :)

Not at all! I was a fit fat (what I used to call myself) person for a long time and could outrun skinny girls any day LOL...

As long as you feel able- do it.
