Barefoot Exercising?

Sometimes I do my exercises barefoot ( 30DS) and I feel great doing them. It's easier for me to do the plank moves with out shoes. I'm wondering if I'm causing damage that I don't know about?

people do pilates barefoot all the time and they do planks.
In my dance classes a lot of people would go barefoot as well (or just sock feet for turns). I don't see how it would be bad when doing circuit style workouts.0 -
All of my exercise is done barefoot. Its easier for me, prevents my feet from burning, etc. Anytime I can be barefoot, I try to be. Shoes destroy your feet over time so.0

I workout barefoot all the time. The only time I wear sneakers is when I'm.running. Other then that sneakers hurt my feet.0

I always do stretches and pilates etc barefoot. But I find when doing more vigorous exercising I need a bit of ankle support. Humans were mean to run etc barefoot so I see no problems if it feels good0

The only potential problem you may encounter is a fallen arch... I had this problem at basic (US ARMY) and it happens every now and again when I do high impact activities without listening to my body... You just need arch support or wraps to prevent this and pay attention to your body. If anyone knows it, you should.0

The human body was designed to be barefoot. I find my balance is significantly better when lifting barefoot (well, sock-footed.) I would go to work barefoot of they would allow it.0

I always workout barefoot! I only wear shoes if I'm outside, in case i step on glass or something.0

I do martial arts, which is all done barefoot. I do plank, pushups, running, kicking, jumping etc during that training barefoot no issues. It's been 2 years, no issues. In fact being barefoot like that has fixed my planar fascitis. I find it's better for my ankles which have both been broken in the past. It feels more stable because it allows my toes to gri, and my feet not to pronate.
I personally find it to be the best way to workout.0 -
Shoes are only necessary when running on rough terrain, if you ask me. Last winter I did both insanity and 30DS shoeless. As I have ankle/foot issues, I find I am more centred and less likely to hurt myself if i can actually FEEL the ground.0

Thanks, everyone! You guys are great. I'm barefoot most of the time too, so my body likes it. However, I will pick up some wraps for my feet for the arches. Jillian M loves those jumping jacks and high kicks.0

Agreed. I'm on my second round of Insanity now, tried wearing shoes once ... ouch! It'd be impossible for me to finish the whole program if I had to wear shoes. Ha.0 -

Thank you so much for posting this because this is the exact reason I came to look at forums tonight! Being a stay at home mom of 5 and only having time to do indoor nightly exercises I was wondering the same thing! I got my answer though! Thanks again for posting

I just about ALWAYS exercise barefoot. If I do aerobics without my step I go barefoot on my 4x8 tumbling gymnastics mat and I can grip the mat good with my toes.

I weight lift barefoot, the only damage I worry about is dropping the weights on my toes!0
