Husband starting calorie counting - help with prot / carb ?

Ok so apparently I (and his back pain) inspired my husband to get on the health train
So starting Sunday (have to revamp the kitchen) he will be counting calories to lose weight. Let me rephrase that.. I WILL be counting his calories LOL Once he has adjusted - he can do some but I will handle breakfast / lunch & dinners. Measuring / counting / planning etc.
My question - I do not see him working out (at least not yet)...I do so I am sure to kick in heavy sometimes with my protein. I pay attention to all my macros where with him..without working out should I pay attention to only calories until he decides to hit the gym? Should I ensure he has a certain amount of protein etc.?
Obviously males are different so I am not sure what will be most beneficial for him.
FYI if needed ~ He needs to lose at least 60 / 70 lbs. He is 37 yrs old - 6'1 and stocky build (like a brick house! - definitely has muscle underneath!)
Any advice would be HUGELY appreciated

Figure his LBM. 1 gram of protein per pound of LBM. Then .35 gram fat per pound of body weight. Then fill in the rest with carbs. He should hit calorie goal 1st, then protein, then fat everything else after that. Unless he is diabetic or has blood pressure issues don't worry about tracking sodium or sugar to begin with. Hope this helps0

just one mans opinion here... since i also joined to lose around 60lbs
dont worry about his macros, just give him a moderate calorie deficit and most importantly let him eat all the foods he normally eats. that way it doesn't feel like he is on a diet
perhaps just eating a medium portion of whatever he is having as opposed to the large portion he's probably having right now.
if calories are too low he's gonna get cranky and might quit on you, so figure out his TDEE then subtract 500 calories per day from that number. I'm sure its going to be over 2000 calories per day, anyway you look at it, that's a lot of food if done right.
it'll help keeping the belly full if you incorporate more fruits and veggies on a regular basis.
good luck0 -

This is good advice as well. I would start here.0 -
Thank you!! I am going to start with the calorie until i adjust to tracking for two people LOL then work on his protein at least. I know he has alot of muscle mass and I do not want him to lose that! I myself do not want to become over whelmed either trying to keep up with both my logging and his!
I had him on weight watchers years ago with me and he does really well..I want to make sure he is not hungry each day but losing muscle is not an option
Great advice all the way around0
