A Somewhat Strange NSV

The past few weeks have been very difficult for me, for a variety of reasons. Over that time period I gained four pounds due to eating very unhealthy. (I'm talking cookie dough and potato chips for dinner...yikes!). Things finally started to take a turn for the better last night, and as I sat there eating my junk food, I came to understand that no matter how much food I eat, my situation isn't going to change. All that I get from emotional eating is bloat, weight gain and feeling like a walking pile of garbage. That realization has motivated me to find healthier alternatives to dealing with the problems that come into my life. It's going to be a long road, but I'll be stronger for it in the end.

I hear ya. Been there, done that.
The best thing I did was stop buying chips and the ingredients to make cookie dough. You would think that having to make cookies from scratch would make me stop, but, no, I would make a whole batch of chocolate chip oatmeal cookies and eat the whole bowl. Raw.
I know I would still do the same today, so I don't buy the ingredients any more, or at least no chocolate chips!
Avoid the junk food aisles in the grocery store and you will be so much better off. Don't buy any of it--if you buy it, you will eat it. That's reality. You wouldn't have bought it if you did not intend to eat it, right?
Even so, every once in a while is okay. Don't let one day of eating crazy make you totally give up. Wake up the next day and eat healthy. We all fall some times.0 -

Congratulations on taking the first step, which is sometimes the hardest!!0 -
Self Awareness is sometimes a hard thing to come by!! Congrats on your NSV. :flowerforyou: Yes, the road may be long but keep at it! Eventually you will get where you are trying to go.0

That is a HUGE step! I am an emotional eater, too. The same tired advice actually does help, though. Whenever you feel things start to slip out of your control, go do something else, like go for a walk, ride a bike around the neighborhood, call a friend, etc.
Switch your response to your stressor. You've got to recondition yourself in how you handle things that are around you. You're absolutely right, eating junk, more than you need, etc., will only lead to more unhappiness.
At least if you go exercise a bit, you'll get a natural high and that great feeling that you've done something good for yourself. Nobody and nothing can change that!
Feel free to add me!0 -

I'm not saying that I refuse to enjoy foods like cookies and potato chips. I'm saying I'm not going to turn to food for comfort. I also refuse to accept being an emotional eater because it's not a healthy lifestyle and I know that I'm better than that and worth more than that. Thank you for your input though. I hope whatever your doing works for you.0 -
That's a priceless realization!
Some days I need to think about that, too. . . the first cookie is about the taste and the enjoyment, but if you get to the 4th, 5th, 6th . . . what is it about? Whatever is broken, at that point, the 6th cookie isn't going to be the answer to the problem.
Keep the healthy perspective of your emotional issues when it comes to eating - it's a lifesaver!!0
