free weights question

I bought some heavier weights today. Been using 5lbs but I can do reps all day. I only increased to 8. 9lbs was just too much. Thought about getting a kettlebell/ball to start doing low back exercises. Not sure what weight to start out on. I have been doing the back exercises with 2 5lb dumbells for several months. Any suggestions?

If they make a kettlebell in 12 lbs. (and I think they do), I'd start with that. That way if you progress beyond that for your lower back, you can start using it for some other exercises for your arms and shoulders?

Get a 20-25 pound kettlebell. These tiny weights are wasting your time as you're more than capable of handling heavier weight.

Excellent. Best of luck to you. One of my proudest moments is when i realize I'm going to have to shell out cash for heavier stuff to lift. Can't wait to hear about when you have to buy a 35 pounder the next time out.

F/u on kettlebell. I took the 20lb back and got the 25lb instead. Wow, great work out. The next day I was in so much pain that I really thought I injured myself. Unbelievable how weifhts can be cardio too. I run on the treadmill for a half mile, get off and start a set of weights pushups and crunches. Then keep repeating till I complet 3 miles. The kettlebell was a great addition , thanks for the advice.
