My abs are so sore

Abs are killing me I did hanging leg lifts for the first time and now I can't cough without my lower ab muscles killing! Anyone else ever have this happen?? And how long did you have to rest your abs before starting again?

Heheh, yup, I have a love/hate relationship with the hanging leg lifts. A lot of time people just bring their legs up to their waste, but the real work is done by bending the knees and bringing 'em up as high as you can to get that extra squeeze. If you do that, your abs will likely be sore for a day or two.

The good news is that after a short while, the abs recover more quickly and the soreness diminishes. I would wait at least 2-3 days (like any other muscle). I typically do a heavy ab day on Wednesday, and lighter ab day two days before and after. But it took me a few weeks to get to that frequency.

Nice job on attacking those abs. Not many people have the patience/enthusiasm for doing direct ab work.

New exercise new DOMS for a short while. Your body will adapt and you will get use to it.

I took a friend through some ab exercises and he was very sore for a few days but I didn't feel a thing.
