LOL! Fruit would also be nice..strawberries are in season. Southerners eat everything girlfriend. If you can catch it and batter it, we fry it or make a stew of it.

    That's awesome *LOL*

potato salad, cole slaw, baked beans, green salad cornbread. Low country boil is awesome! (I'm from the coastal GA/SC area and we have it all the time. Even had one for my rehearsal dinner!).

I feel sheepish admitting... I've never had crab. Real crap... like, crack a leg open and eat it crab :grumble:

And I may be the only person on earth that doesn't really dig corn.

I have family in Beaufort lol Not far from there myself.

A low country boil. Start a large pot boiling. add some crab boil mix. Old Bay is my favorite.

Throw in a few pounds of small potatoes. Let them boil for a while, then throw in the small corn cobbs and whole onions.

After about 10 minutes add a lot of pieces of polish sausage or kielbasa.

Let things boil, and then 10 minutes before eating time.... add the shrimp.

Then dump it all down a long table and have at it!

    :-)

cole slaw is a standard side, but not necessary

bread for dipping into the "boil". Mac and cheese is good..Dirty rice...

Dirty Rice?? What the hell do you southerners eat??? *LOL*

    I'll google it :) Thanks!

Is it not called dirty rice anywhere else? I'm so out of the loop of what's only a southern staple bc I'm so used to it.

I was very upset when I went to British Columbia and they told me they had sweet tea.. it was Brisk Raspberry :frown:

Edit to say: I know what mostly is just southern anymore, this was probably 6-7 years ago, haha

    OK, I shall make

    1. amazing baked beans (I don't suck at this)
    2. cornbread
    3. coleslaw
    4. potato salad or perhaps the mac n' cheese idea... I like that.

I think we'll be good, and that's all stuff I've managed to not screw up before :)

Thanks everyone! Super helpful. This will be a fun new experience for me :drinker:

I don't like corn much, unless it's fried in butter lol.

    LOVE crab though :)

When you make that cornbread make sure you get the skillet coated with crisco hot 400* oven pour your batter in the pan when it is smokin' to get a good thick crust, then put it in the oven to bake it. Mamaw used to have her own home-grown corn coarse ground at a mill and I've never found anything like it.
Where exactly is this boil going to be?
PS I like fried okra, butter beans and purple hull peas too.

oh y'all are making me hungry!!!!!!!! I could go for a shrimp and mudbug boil, but with the lean turkey sausage. Best thing about shrimp and crawdaddies - you can eat all you want cause they hardly have any calories!
