I'm just curious about how much protein is a good benchmark. Your thoughts??

It's going to depend on the person. I set my macros for 40/30/30, but I don't always quite hit that. I do am to get, at the very, very least, 80 grams of protein a day. I am for 90-100 as my norm. The general rule of thumb for an "average" person, not looking to build muscle or anything, is 1 gram protein per pound of lean body mass.0

I'm wondering about protein too. What is a high protein diet good for?0

Thanks Jen. What do you mean by macros?0

Diets that are "high" in protein are excellent for weight loss. The protein (along with strength training) helps to ensure that you lose fat, not LBM.I'm wondering about protein too. What is a high protein diet good for?
Macros are the three macronutrients- Carbs, Protein, Fat. When someone talks about "their macros" they generally are referring to the ratio/percentage of them that they eat. Thanks Jen. What do you mean by macros?0 -
Macros = carbs/protein/fat. MFP sets them differently than I do, so, imho, their default protein number is way too low.
CharMaroc, protein helps many people feel fuller. Plus, it aids in muscle recovery.0 -
MFP has my protein at 50, which does seem very low to me. Thanks!0

1 gram per pound of LBM for strength training. Also .8-1.5 grams per lb of body weight, 1.5 is pretty much up to as most possible to absorb.0

it depends on your goals and how you are training. for me i eat average of 150g of protein per day...0

Thanks, I really should eat more protein!0
