Meal Ideas

Just starting my healthier life journey (well restarting but that is a long story). I've been eating Subway for lunch (with healthier choices) pretty much everyday because of a lack of options. Which while the numbers look OK I'd like to broaden my meal choices.

I'm wondering what simple easy to make meal ideas are, or where I can find some.

Leading a hectic life I all too often reach for Lean Cusines or Subway because they are quick and easy. But I feel there must be alternatives out there. Fast, satisfying meals.

What options do you have for bringing/storing/heating your lunch? If you have a refrigerator and a microwave, there are a million things you could fix, ranging from baked potato to reheated leftovers to soups and salads and "ethnic" choices. What sorts of things do you like to eat?

Cooking is always the best choice. But as far as eating out goes, many fast food places have decently low calorie options. McDonalds chicken club without mayo is around 400 calories. Add in a side salad with a vinaigrette dressing and you have a good meal. Carls Jr has a Bbq Chicken sandwich that is around the same. Wendys too. You have options other than Subway.

I make a lot of things in my cockpot and then I have one of the mini *kitten* that I bring to work to reheat/keep heated. Works really well!

I also like SkinnyTaste - lots of great recipes there!
  • All some great thoughts. I have access to a fridge and a microwave.

I'll check out these sites and get some ideas. Thanks!

If you are preparing healthy dinners just make a little extra to bring for lunch the next day.

If not, maybe start fixing crockpot dinners that leave you with leftovers for lunch. There are thousands of recipes available online. Throw stuff in crockpot. Go to work, come home and dinner is waiting. So is lunch for the next day.

Check out this "Cooking Light" website. It's got a terrific selection with all the nutritional information
as well as the calorie information. I like to make meals in advance and have left overs for lunch.
