I hardly exercise and I want to get into it. I also have a fear of breaking a sweat and being watched by people. What can I do to start my journey?

A fear of sweating in general or people seeing you sweat? Who cares! I don't! Get moving!0

Do something at home until you get over the fear.0

Well, both, I suppose.0

Start walking moderate pace for 30 mins a day.0

I don't see why people are embarrassed of sweating. Sweating at the gym is badass, as long as it's not smelly.0

Oh hun.... Sweating is the best thing ever! Put your hair up on your head, put your earbuds in and work. Hard. I am dripping by the time I leave the gym, and it is the best feeling ever. Just do it!0

You could start with walking. You can go at your own pace and gradually take longer and longer walks. Pick a destination, then walk home again... and nobody will pay attention! It's a gentle exercise that will build up your stamina.
Edited to add if you start by walking, be sure to wear a good pair of shoes so you don't get blisters.0 -
psh.
pick up some iron...lift it...set it back down

I totally get where you're coming from. I have felt the same things in the past. I always hated the idea of people being able to tell I have no idea what I'm doing. Home workouts can be great, but actually going to the gym gives more more of a feeling of satisfaction. I basically just forced myself to get past it. The first couple days were awkward, but after that I began to feel more and more at home.
Anyone who judges you for working hard and breaking a sweat in order to become a stronger, healthier person is not the kind of person whose opinion you should care about0 -
It's not the people that are sweating at the gym that I notice, but the people that aren't sweating.
If you're at the gym and dry as a bone. Its time to go home.0 -

H*ll yeah! I'm offended if I don't see EVERYONE sweaty lol, I expect it out of those that are supposed to be working hard or just working. I'd say just go and workout, no one cares. Really.0 -
I'm not a gym user. I prefer to just get out walking and work up to running intervals. I'd look into something like Zumba though. Everyone sweats and has a great time.0
