I had my cholestoral checked at a health review my company sponsored and i was just over the high mark. So what should be my goal for daily cholestoral to help lower it? Any suggestions or ideas.
Thanks

Mine is high - you should stay within the limits MFP gives you based on the number of calories you are on. When I have ONE EGG it goes up by 250! We gotta watch our animal intake (eggs, meat - even fish). I have not been back in the Dr. since trying this but I am willing to bet it is normal now (6 weeks and 13.5 lbs later). Losing weight will help you - as will the exercise!0

Try to keep your saturated fats to a minimum, and try to eat foods that are known to lower bad cholesterol and increase good cholesterol. These include high-fiber foods (such as oatmeal), nuts, and fish & omega-3 fatty acids. Exercise also helps improve cholesterol levels. Here is a good, reputable site for info on high cholesterol:

Reduce all refined carbohydrate and reduce sugar.0

Dietary cholesterol (found in eggs) has little to no impact on blood cholesterol. The poster who said avoid refined sugar and carbs hit it on the head.
My mother-in-law had high cholesterol about a year ago. Her doctor wanted to put her on medicine right away, I advised her to hold off. Here's what she did to lower it so much her doctors were shocked in just 3 months:
One bowl of steel cut oats each day
Daily fish oil supplement
Daily calcium/magnesium supplement
That's it.
Also, excercise and eating whole foods will do nothing but help.0 -
Reduce all refined carbohydrate and reduce sugar.
In March, my cholesterol was 238. I reduced all enriched flour, white carbs, etc. and cut sugar as much as possible from my diet.
My re-test in June came back at 189. HUGE difference.
I didn't reduce animal products, which was a plus for me because I love dairy and chicken/meat/etc. You need this in your diet.0
