Walking DVDs vs Zumba DvDs

Hi everyone. I have been going back and forth between my zumba cardio DVD and my Walk Away the Pounds with REsistance Band training DVD. I wanted to know if you use any of those or some similiar and which do you think would bring the better results. I am tracking the calories and just trying to go with it freely. Let me know what your thoughts are. I need to begin lifting again as well....

The answer is Bokwa. Just kidding. (or not.) As a zumba instructor who enjoys just about everything, it doesn't matter, you do what you enjoy most and that's all that matters. Try not to get hung up with calories per hour charts. Choose a fitness program that appeals to you and enjoy. Remember that good health is a journey, not a destination and you'll be alright.

I agree with fluffychicken. I have used both walking and Zumba DVDs and enjoyed them both and lost weight with both. I enjoy Zumba a lot more though so I stuck with it longer. I think I burnt slightly more calories with Zumba because it was a little more intense but the walking was a great way to ease back into exercise having been out of it for quite some time. While I have made a lifelong commitment to exercise I definitely haven't made one to a SPECIFIC program as I am much happier trying something new every few months.

I'm curious to know that too.

Thanks so much for the input yall. I appreciate it. I too feel that as long as you are getting a good workout it shouldn't matter but I wondered what others had experienced between the two....

Now as far as how the walking dvds go, there is a lot of walking in place but Leslie Sansone and her partners add variety but doing walking in motion where you walk back and forth, knee lifts, leg kicks, kicking your legs backward or raising them backward, etc. I also have the one where there is a resistance band used for arm exercises while you are moving your feet as well. That band creates a serious burn. Leslie has a variety of walking DVDS but I really love the one with the resistance band, refered to as a walk belt. Each mile is broken up into segments so you can do one or more. Depending on the pace of the DVD, they take from about 10-15 minutes. I hope that helps.....
  • @FlufffyChicken, how long have you been a Zumba instructor? And what is that process like? I really enjoy Zumba a great deal.

Hey Sab, I've been an instructor since Sept 2012, but I've been doing zumba for over two years. I take classes about 6 to 10 times a week and on my weekends, I'm either attending my colleague's master classes or I'm involved in zumbathon raising money for really good causes. The process of licensing not hard but getting auditions to work in a gym or dance studio and additional group fitness licensing is different from place to place. My day job is in accounting so this is my side gig. But I say if you love it, check it out and see if it's for you. :)
  • @FluffyChicken, that is great. We have some similarities there. I studied accounting as well and worked as an accounting clerk right out of college and my last full time was an internal auditor. I really enjoyed that line of accounting a lot. Maybe after I lose more weight I would be comfortable teaching zumba but not yet. lol. But I really do enjoy doing it. This weekend I went over a DVD with my nephews and they loved it too. That brought me a lot of joy. that is awesome that you do it for charitable events too. You really dedicate a lot of time to it. Awesome. Nothing like having a hobby you really enjoy.

I agree with what everyone else said. I have done Zumba and Leslie's videos ( she is great), and I say do whatever you feel like doing:)

It's a very fast jog in place with knee lifts, side steps, kick backs etc, its like a low impact aerobics I know MANY women who lost lots of weight with these videos and I love them.

My main workouts are leslie sansone dvds and Zumba dvds. I use zumba on the days that I need something intense and the walking videos for my lighter days or if I need a "night cap" a little 1 or 2 mile just to ramp up my day.

Not to sound negative, but why would you buy and watch a Walking DVD as opposed to going for a walk? :noway:
