What do you do when...

... you are in between dress sizess?
When I first started MFP I dropped a dress size quite quickly, but have been stuck rigid with it for quite a while. Today's weigh-in showed an inch off both my "widest part" and my hips since last week, (last week was an inch down on my bust from week previous) so I know it's going somewhere - my problem is now that I'm just that bit too big still for the next size down in clothes, but my current items are falling down.
I can pull my jeans up and down straight from the wash without undoing the button and zip and after an hour or too they start to slip. I've noticed same with my underwear! I have to wear clothes that hold it up, otherwise it's a bit compromising!!
If I wear a belt with my jeans, it "puckers" and becomes uncomfortable (albeit, it does save my embarrassment while out shopping) but otherwise I'm constantly hitching my bottoms up.

Today, I bought some underwear in a size smaller, but its *just* that bit too small - I can get it on, but its not very flattering. I don't want to have to keep buying expensive clothes as I am on a tight budget, nor do I want to have to keep buying and wearing cheaper items that look shoddy after a couple of wears.

It has made me want to stretch those calories and gym burn a little bit more but I have not long worked out that I wasn't eating enough in the past, so don't want to go back there too quickly :-/

So? What do you do?

Honest answer? Deal with it. :L I'm going through the same where some jeans I just bought like, maybe a month ago (all my old ones were falling apart! lol) are sagging. I have a really huge *kitten*, and they're even saggy around there...I have a couple of pairs that are a size down from what I am now, and they don't fit just yet, but I don't have the money to go buy even more new jeans, so, I just deal with it. And I don't even own a belt, so I'm literally pulling my pants up all the time

You could try several different brands and styles until you find something that fits. Brands vary widely in their sizing.

Or you could try thrift or resale shops. Here we have shops that buy back clothes in good condition and resell them.

Or you can do like me and wear yoga pants constantly.

Other than that, I would just kick serious tail at the gym and get to that next size as fast as possible.

If nothing else works, and you're good at sewing you can take them in a bit. If not, a belt is about the only thing I can think of.

Stop wearing jeans - skirts with elasticated waists and dresses are a lot more flexible with sizing i.e. a dress won't fall off you!

Also, look at trousers with a reasonable degree of stretch to then.

    Thrift.

    Clothes swap with friends.

And as mentioned, definitely try different brands and styles. Clothing sizes can vary hugely i.e. I have tried on and fit both a size 10 and a size 16 pair of jeans in the same brand but different styles from the same store. I didn't magically change size in the few seconds between the two.

    * Belts sometimes--depending on cut of pants
    * Sew a couple of darts in the back of my pants (I'm pretty hand with the sewing machine)
    * wear the smaller size, and then a forgiving blouse or shirt that hides the muffin top.

Marshall's, T.J. Maxx, Goodwill, Salvation Army. The first two for quality and the last two for everything but best. I just got a gorgeous chocolate suede jacket in perfect condition for $5.44.

Oh man, this is so me right now... it's pretty frustrating!!

I decided to be optimistic and wear my new size 18 jeans to work today, because I was tired of my size 20's falling down. Welp, my butt kept falling out every time I bent over (I am a stocker) and I thought I was gonna rip the belt loops off yanking them up so much, because they were way too tight! Luckily I had the foresight to wear an extra long shirt so that I wasn't flashing my undies to everyone, but still... >___<

Keep calm and carry on -- we are headed in the right direction, and that is the important part. Don't skimp on the calories but definitely DO kick as much *kitten* at the gym as you can... those smaller sizes will come to you soon enough!

lots of food for thought - thanks for your suggestions everyone :)

Doing the "muffin top" look today - but have a baggy cardigan to hide the bumpy bits - so much better than keep hitching my trousers up! lol

i don't believe in 'between sizes'. No 2 stores make their sizes identical, so go have fun trying things on and buy what fits well. Often the cheapie chain stores have smaller cuts in their sizes.

    That's what I did anyway :)

If you sew, take them in a little. If you don't sew, go to a seamstress and have them taken in. It's not overly expensive and it will get you by until you get down just a little more. You don't have to have everything you own done, but a few items just to get you by.

Other option - go to Goodwill and just start trying things on. Depending on the brand, there's a range in each size and you may find a brand that fits you better at your current size than what you've been wearing.

For underwear, have you tried just buying new ones in the same size you've been in? Maybe the ones you have now are just stretched out. I've gone down 2 clothing sizes but my same underwear still fits (although one more size and it won't anymore!).
