Breakfast ideas (less than 100mg sodium)

Hey guys

I am looking for some breakfast ideas. I need to have three meals that are about 500 calories each, but less than 100mg of sodium and also low on sugar (less than 10g).
Breakfast is the hardest because I am really trying to lower my sodium and everything seems to have it in spades. Eggs and cheese are out. I don't have cereal.
I was going to eat fruit but yesterday I exceeded my sugar limit in watermelon alone! (Is it okay to go over in sugar if it's from fruit?) I only get like 30g of sugar a day so it's hard to stay under and eat fruit.

Thanks for your help!

  • I'm no help when it comes to low sodium, however if you don't have a medical reason for sugars it's fine. I stopped tracking my sugars since I was always over because I love fruit! Most days I would be 2x over by noon with just an apple and orange or something.

Plain oats have no sodium according to my container. I add chia seeds or flax seeds and a natural nut or peanut butter with no added sugars. That should keep you under 100g of sodium and lower on sugar, plus it's filling.

Oatmeal. And I'm with you.. I want to keep my sodium way down too. When I was on a no added sodium diet is when I lost the most weight and easily. Since then, I can't believe how much sodium is in everything..and how Americans don't realize how unhealthy it is..

Oatmeal with a bit of peanut butter or baby food puree to flavor it
pancakes made of shredded zucchini or apple or sweet potato
"hash" made of veggies w a small amount of meat- prep your single servings in little tuperwares so it's fresh & so you don't over eat
plain Greek yogurt with a bit of puree or cinnamon, ect

An egg has about 70 mg of sodium.
That said, if you are eating the cereal and the milk like you had today, you are going to have more sodium than just having had the egg. I don't purposefully avoid sodium but I do stay low in sodium by eating the least amount of dairy and prepared foods possible. The only dairy I eat is greek yogurt and goat cheese. If I were you, I would either have the egg, or the rolled oats with maybe some fruit and use rice milk or almond even, and you will be better off than the granola.

An egg has 94 mg of sodium and only 92 calories so in order for me to get to my 500 calories I would need to eat more than that in sodium milligrams.

Unfortunately, I find the other milks horrible tasting so skim is where I will stick. It's not too bad.

    But thanks for the support.
