43 and sick and tired

Looking to add some like minded folks here.

I have recently re-started training in American Kenpo after 20 years out, skating in beer league hockey once a week and not watching what I ate was not working anymore. (The beer did not help either :) )
As a result I started to creep up in the neighborhood of 300 lbs (285)

Enough

2 weeks in and I am down 10lbs by small steps to diet each week and small goals.
Working out in Karate class twice a week and took the summer hockey season off to see what I can do with some focus and drive.
I'm 43 and married, hoping for a few like minded people to provide support for success and the occaisional kick in the backside when we slip.

Accountability to ones self is great but I am hoping that a little outside influence will benefit more.
My wife is 100 lbs soaking wet and is one of those people who can eat what they want, never work out, and stays the same weight. While she is very supportive she will never unsderstand how tough it is for some of us.

Anyone feel free to drop me an invite.

Like a lot of guys, I went from a high calorie burning occupation (Career Marine), got older, got sedentary, and got fat. Its been a long haul getting back to where I am now. Finally...FINALLY getting to where i feel good. Its a long frickin haul! No lie...it is a slog. But you can do it! You got the right attitude...small steps, long view. Nothing pisses me off more than excuses and those who say "its easy for you" The hell it is! Its success through hard work. Period. I am adding you...hope to watch your success and will definitely verbally kick you in the butt if you need it (ha!).

I feel you. Been there. It isn't easy or all of us 40 something guys would still look like we did in our 20's. It takes perseverance but you can do it. Hold yourself accountable, (MFP helps a lot with that), and give yourself an attainable goal, (like 2 lb a week), and 90 days. You'll find lots of good tips and ideas here so pick and try out the ones that fit your lifestyle and goals. I did not want to cut out the alcohol but I did scale back to just wine and just 1 glass. Someone told me to cut down my coffee to help bring up my energy and it worked. I make a green shake in the AM (a handful of leafy greens, a lemon, handful of frozen fruit and 2 cups water in the vitamix. I also add a bit of ginger now), and it really gives me energy so I am down from 6 cups coffee to 1 cup a day and actually feel more awake. Anyway, nice to meet you and look forward to seeing you reach your goals. Zev

Keep your stick on the ice... sans beer. ;o)

Understanding how you got where you are is key to understanding how to get where you want to be. Congratulations on this important step.
