Getting a Fitbit One

Hi everyone. Hope you'll chime in here. I'm going to be getting my FitBit One on Tuesday. Is set-up easy? What should I expect? If you have one, what have your experiences been?

Thanks!

Tory

i have had mine for about two months now... I was glad to see that it confirmed my TDEE activity. when i calculated my tdee i really didnt know what activity level to select because i do alot of differnt things on different days. But i have found i'm very active three days of the week and not so active on the other days. So "light" activity was right...

The fitbit itself is super easy to work... If you want to sync it and have all the colories adjusted. thats a different story. Hopefully someone can help you out with that part of it... i tried to sync it but decide to just let the fitbit do its thing. (kept it separte from MFP) and logged my calories and food in MPF...

I have MFp set to a set number of calories... So i have 1800 every day regardless of activity or exercise. (its included in my TDEE).
so i use the fitbit so see how many calories i have burned for the week. and MFP to total the claories i've eatten and just make sure i have a deficit....

hope thats not too confusing. Once you get it and start working with it you'll love it... its seems to be very accurate for me. i got it just to get an over feel of my lifestyle and patterns...

My hubby order one for me and I should be getting it today! Can't wait!!
  • I got mine last Wednesday. Set up was a snap, and to my surprise it confirmed that I am at 'least' at the lightly active setting (TDEE is showing up at somewhere between 2800 - 3100 calories a day, my daily routine is between 8000 & 9000 steps without even trying 'too' hard to aim at 10k). I love it and it does challenge me to work on climbing more stairs. It's silly, but it works for me, and I'm going merrily along. My hubby asked me to get him a Zip (he doesn't care about tracking his sleep patterns or any of the One special things).

ETA: I also got a new phone last weekend and was THRILLED to discover it had the necessary Blue Tooth capacity (4.0) to sync with the One, so I don't have to worry (as much) about keeping the dongle near at hand for updating the FB website.

    bump. am considering getting one.
  • Set up was so easy! I have had actually 4 fitbits now. The original one they made was def not made to wear all the time - it would crack and break. Now, my fourth one, is the fitbit One and it's very awesome! It's much more durable and the battery life is AMAZING. It says it lasts a week, but mostly I can get 2-3 weeks out of it and I wear it CONSTANTLY.

If you have an iPhone 4S or higher, you can sync through your phone! Very cool, I cant enjoy that yet, but next phone upgrade, can't wait.

I don't use mine to track sleep, I found that feature quite useless. But, it's simple and easy to do.

Hope it all goes well - follow the instructions, remember to give it a charge every other week ,and have fun!!

I have the fitbit zip and I love it! I just got it for my birthday last week and it's so easy to use and I really can't believe I waited so long to get one.

I am waiting for the fitbit flex due out within a month. I lose or don't remember clip on things so a braclet sounds like a better fit for me.
  • It will be the best thing you have ever bought. Easy set up and fun to use. You will find ways to use it the longer you have it. Example: going out of your way to climb stairs rather than the easy route.

I have the FitBit Ultra and have owned it since August 2012 (only difference is Ultra doesnt sync to phone with bluetooth) but honestly after having my BodyMedia for 2 weeks now I wish I would have got that instead back in August. The FitBit is a great easy to use device but it really doesn't calculate all the effort you put into those steps.

BodyMedia uses information like sweat, temperature of the air around you, the speed in which you are moving, etc (over 5,000 sensors apparently) to give you your TDEE. So far in the last two weeks, FitBit has said I walked 200-400 steps more than my BodyMedia says. BodyMedia has said I burned 300-700 calories/daily more than Fitbit. i noticed the difference is greater on days I run, the weather is hotter, I'm doing exercises that dont just count steps (i.e cleaning the bathroom, the ellipical, etc.) I love the BodyMedia so much more than my FitBit now, its a little annoying that if I'm wearing a tanktop everyone can see my bodymedia but I've only gotten compliments and encouragement from people that have seen it. BodyMedia does charge you to use their site though which is a bummer.

Anyway, FitBit is a good first starter tool and I love mine for how much it improved my activity levels but it seems to under sell you on your actually TDEE especially in the summer.

I got the fitbit zip the other day (present from hubby). I was planning on getting the fitbit one, but hubby surprised me. I absolutely love it. My phone has bluetooth and as such I can update without being near my computer. Setup was extremely easy. I like that it gives me a better idea of my activity levels throughout the day and a better idea of what I burn daily.

I thought about getting a body media, but didn't like the idea of a monthly fee to see the information it collects. I'm on a pretty tight budget as is. I also considered that if the armband is anything like the HRM that comes with EA Active, it would annoy me to no end and I wouldn't wear it.

Good for you. Setup is easy, and seeing where you are during the day is fun. You still do all your logging in MFP. I sync with my computer, my ipad, and my iphone, depending on where I am, etc.

Well worth getting. I am still not doing much exercise so it will be even more helpful when I do that.
