Food Confusion

Everyone says I should eat more than 1200 a day, they also say I should add less processed foods into my diet. Well today is day one of me trying this and I am trying to figure out how we get the calories, its like fruit and veggies you can eat all day and still wont pass 1200 cals. I worked out 700 cals so I need more food and I am trying not to go processed

Chicken, eggs, beef, fish, rice, oatmeal...

As determined in other posts your BMR (the amount of calories your body burns if you laid in bed all day) is roughly 1600 plus you are exercising over an hour each day. You definitely need more than 1200 calories. Try calorie dense foods like nuts and avocados, but I highly suggest filling up on the lean protein first.

Food...avocado, nuts, nut butters, saute some veg in olive oil...have a steak or some chicken. And correct, you are supposed to eat back exercise calories and net to your goal.

Now when you say oatmeal do you mean that bland stuff or is like Quaker Maple & Brown sugar fine?

I love oatmeal too! I buy the bulk quick oats at our farmers market store and I'll cook them up and add my own cinnamon or berries. I try to stay away from the packaged stuff.

Plain oatmeal and doctor it up yourself. Blueberries are great as is brown sugar and banana. Add whatever fruit you like! Cinnamon is nice too.

Jar of peanut butter and a spoon. Slice an apple and dip away. Full fat dairy. Cheese sticks. Eggs. A handful of almonds/walnuts/pistachios, etc.

Ditch the Quaker instant oatmeal - buy the real stuff, cook it & add plain greek yogurt, fresh fruit (strawberries, blueberries, peaches are coming soon!), some chopped walnuts, honey and a sprinkle of cinnamon - blows that instant stuff out of the water - so so good.

I eat over 1900 calories on a daily basis with no problem hitting that goal. Diary is open - have a look if you like. Although last week was my b-day week, so plenty of chocolates, cake and ice cream in there. Go further back if you want healthier examples.
