I watched "Grave Encounters" recently, and though I generally am way too skeptical / critical of horror movies to enjoy them, this one kept me watching at least. It got a bit silly at the end, but for the most part it was legit. Definitely entertaining.

I haven't watched Insidious yet but hear it's good. Last horror movie I watched was Sinister. I highly recommend it.

  • You're dealing with a Horror Movie fanatic here.. I have well over 150+ titles in my collection and counting..

My favorite is The Thing or Pumpkinhead.

Sinister was okay.. It's a little hard to be frightened by a guy that looks like Mick Thomson of Slipknot.

I'm ready for the movie You're Next.

I prefer old school horror, like from the 60s, 70s and 80s and some 90s. Can't stand the modern stuff, although Rob Zombie's movies have been decent because he's emulating the old school horror. I'm tired of the modern-day horror that is just a big "who can make more audience members puke" contest.

Sadly, I never found one that truly scared me.

I have no true preference, I like as much The Exorcist than The Ring or Amytiville Horror (the original one, of course!)

For something new try American Mary or The Lords of Salem. Ti West has directed a few really good slow-burn, atmospheric films in recent years like The House of the Devil and The Innkeepers; throwbacks from another era. I have to admit, it's been a long time since I've seen an American horror film that truly scared or disturbed me. I tend to like the older films from the 60's and 70's best.

I agree with the other poster about Asian horror. The original Thai version of Shutter (2004) was really creepy. The remake on the other hand was awful. I'd also suggest the Korean films Phone (2002) and A Tale of Two Sisters (2003). If you like more extreme films definitely check out the French films Martyrs and Inside.

Martyrs, Dead Snow, Audition, Ichi the Killer, Let the right one in...so many good ones from France, and japan....the american remakes usually suck *kitten*...

My favorite is Carpenters The Thing. Awesome film, supreme amounts of cheese, lots of suspense, claustrophobic at times. It has Kurt Russell with a flamethrower, his name is MacReady. MAC-READY.

Another favorite is The Fly. This film can still gross me out, I always have to turn a blind eye when he vomits on that other guys arm. You don't really want to watch someone pull their own teeth and ears off. I think thats why this film is a winner, its disgusting.

American Mary gets a solid nod. By far one of the better horrors I've seen in the past few years. It only loosely fits the horror genre but I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys horror.

Will also recommend I Saw The Devil. Korean film, barely a horror but it has some elements. Min-Sik Choi (Oldboy) is immense in this film. Really recommend seeing it, one of my favs of the past few years along with the above.
