Ripped in 30 and C25K

I'm running my first 5k on June 15, so I recently started couch 2 5K 3x/week. I have also been doing ripped in 30 3x a week, I'm on week two of ripped. I usually take two rest days a week. I have noticed a lot of soreness and I regressed with jogging because of it. I am considering quitting ripped in 30 until after I finish the 5k. What does everyone suggest? Should I push through the soreness and continue both, or should I just focus on c25k? Does anyone else do both ripped in 30 and c25k and what does the schedule look like?

I think you can push through it. I started C25K and P90X about the same time and at first I was in pain but after the first couple of weeks it didn't hurt. I'm not sure how ripped in 30 compares to P90X though.

I didn't mix the two when I was working on C25K (well then it was only Shred). Once I was more comfortable with my running ability is when I would mix it in on my non-running days - with 1 full day of rest.

It's a great in between workout - maybe do portions of it (arms, core) but not the cardio?

Good point - I forgot to mention that I only do three days of P90X per week (just the strength training routines). I substitute running for the other routines like plyo, yoga, and kenpo. Strength training will definitely benefit running.

That is a good idea to do ripped every other day. I thought about doing the strength exercises and then just walking in place during the cardio portion. I felt much better today on my run after having two days of rest. So I think I will try sticking with both and see how I feel! At what point can a person run daily? I am no where near that point, but it would be nice to do strength 3x/ a week and running daily, or is running to hard on the joints for daily exercise? Thanks for the advice, I am still learning so much about what works for me!

I did c25k while doing weeks 1-6 (I took longer to do each week) of Jilliam Michaels BR. I am now training for a half marathon and still pushing through the weeks. I do JMBR 4 days a week and run 4 days. I do my long runs on days that I would normally do the cardio portion of BR.

I say push through it if it is muscle soreness type of pain. If it's like my hamstring feels like it about to rip in half maybe take a day off. :) Listen to your body. You need to push to get better, but give your body a break if it is telling you it needs one.

Edited to ask: When did you start the c25k?

That's honestly an individual person question. I've been running for 6 years and I'm still not a daily runner. My body just needs some rest. The best I've done is 5 days/week.

Part of this could also be I get up early to run, and not only does my body need the rest/break from running, but it also needs to sleep in sometimes.
