Need help! Serious hip pain.

After a couple days of working out, I start to get serious hip pain.

I'm not doing anything high impact, I constantly check my form, I do light yoga every couple of days, and always give myself a day off so my muscles can relax at least once a week.

Mostly I'm using an elliptical, and once a week I do a workout video. Either Brazil Butt Lift, Yoga Meltdown, or Leslie Sansones Walk Away The Pounds.

But I'm still getting a really achy hip. I don't know if this is just me getting use to the amount of working out I'm now doing (I use to workout three times a week, now its five or six) or if maybe its something else.

Anyone else have this problem? Any advice would be appreciated greatly.

Try stretching out your hip flexors
  • I would say get it checked by a Dr. We discovered my daughter had hip dysplasia when she was in 4th grade, and many women find out when they are older.

The elliptical mimics running closely enough. I would suggest checking out this video. It enlightened my coworker who was having debilitating pain, and had docs trying to push SURGERY to correct it. He's doing much better now.

I was getting nasty left hip pain on walking, i found that doing slow twists from side to side and holding it helped temporarily, but ultimately, I had to see a Chiropractor to get it fixed :)

^^This^^ My hips got really achy at first, too, and my physical therapist said my hip flexors were so weak they couldn't keep up. Try some hip flexor exercises in addition to the walking/eliptical. Strengthen your hips and everything else should fall in line. Good luck!

I've been doing this. I have a couple really get stretches for hip flexers.
Thank you all for your replies, still trying to figure out exactly what it is.

Odds are that you have a weakness in an underused hip muscle. Try to start doing some simple bodyweight squats (check online for guides for proper form) to help build some strength in your hips.
