BMI/Body Fat Percentage

March 16: BMI- 46 Body Fat%: 37.42 Waist: 53.75 inches Neck: 21.75 inches

April 25: BMI- 43 Body Fat% 34.7 Waist: 50.75 Neck: 21

Only change I made, starting on March 20, was to start a better diet plan as recommended by my doctor. My exercise routine remains pretty much unchanged. I'm averaging about 2 pounds a week in weight reduction. I'm shrinking slowly and steadily just as I should be. Nothing drastic or over the top, but dropping down nicely.

Great work! What did you use to measure body fat percentage?
  • I looked up a BMI/BF% calculator online. You have to know your neck and waist measurements.

I did some searching and found out that a local hospital offers a DEXA scan for $50 for first visit and $25 for additional. its a VERY detailed report with body fat and lean mass broken down by body part, and bone density. DEXA is considered the most accurate test and i would highly recommend it if you have one in your area. during my weight loss journey, I have tried multiple methods of measuring body fat, and found some HUGE variations with different methods. I felt it was nice to have a very accurate test twice a year, and to monitor my measurements on a weekly or bi-weekly basis to be able to monitor my progress.

Congrats on your loss, and look forward to hearing about your next update!!

If you're retired military, you could go over to one of the military bases to the health promotions office at the gyms-most have the body pod testing now for free.
